Leather Fly Rod Case

I have settled on building a leather flyrod case with reel this winter and I am wondering if anyone here has tried this. I'm looking for a pattern but haven't found anything using 'the google' I'm quite new to leather working so if you've got any ideas or advice I'm open to them.

There is a fellow in Calgary that does absolutely the best work I've seen. I've got both a rod case and reel case from Bob.

I'll add a third with Don if you want to buy one but I think your original question was you want to build one. I would check out Tandy leather for supplies, they may even have patterns or can order you one. Must be a special rod to deserve a leather case.

Thanks for all the responses and pm's. I'm going to start off easy with a wallet and then move onto a rod/reel case if all goes well. Maybe even post some pictures if it all turns out o.k.

tandy has some great leather for this sort of thing. I would almost recomend you buy/aquire a used cheap one to pull apart and make a pattern with. When i doubt give some extra room around the reel incase you upgrade to a large arbor in the future.
