brownonbow Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I have settled on building a leather flyrod case with reel this winter and I am wondering if anyone here has tried this. I'm looking for a pattern but haven't found anything using 'the google' I'm quite new to leather working so if you've got any ideas or advice I'm open to them. Quote
DonAndersen Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 jigsaw, There is a fellow in Calgary that does absolutely the best work I've seen. I've got both a rod case and reel case from Bob. Have a look @ http://www.robertcochrane.com/ regards, Don Quote
kritofr Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I would second Don's advice for Bob Cochrane. Quote
SilverDoctor Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I'll add a third with Don if you want to buy one but I think your original question was you want to build one. I would check out Tandy leather for supplies, they may even have patterns or can order you one. Must be a special rod to deserve a leather case. Quote
brownonbow Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 Thanks for all the responses and pm's. I'm going to start off easy with a wallet and then move onto a rod/reel case if all goes well. Maybe even post some pictures if it all turns out o.k. Quote
Guest 420FLYFISHIN Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 tandy has some great leather for this sort of thing. I would almost recomend you buy/aquire a used cheap one to pull apart and make a pattern with. When i doubt give some extra room around the reel incase you upgrade to a large arbor in the future.
