bigbowtrout Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Well I'll start by saying that I'm not as good of a story teller as a few on here or like HopperDroppers Coral Lake report from last year but I'll give it a go. http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?...02&hl=coralA few weeks back I was surprised for my birthday with a trip to Coral Lake (Big thanks to my Bro Mark and my Dad(Dad golfs so stayed at home lol)So we picked a weekend and started planning the trip and found a third to come along. The one thing that kept on bugging me was from HopperDroppers report and how he was dropped at the wrong lake twice and the last thing I wanted was that to happen to us. Ice Field Heli reassured us all was well and they would get us to the right lake so all we could do was hope they were right. So we all met up at Icefield Helicopter Tours Heli-pad for our 9am flight and headed out. I said screw that and ran down to the lake to see if I could spot any fish.Wow what a relief Quote
bigbowtrout Posted August 30, 2011 Author Posted August 30, 2011 So we set up camp and then strung up the rods I did not take long to get into some Gold using very small mayflys and gnats and 6 and 7x leaders. We did really well on day one with over 20 fish landed each and many more misses.Time for a nap (And did I mention how windy it was? Well I'll let the rocks on my tent tell that story) Quote
bigbowtrout Posted August 30, 2011 Author Posted August 30, 2011 After a long days fishing we stayed up to witness one of the best and clearest nights I have ever seen. The stars were super bright and the temperature was a bit cool but not as cold as we thought it would be.Day two started with a nice bright sunny morning and some first light fishing. Then we went on a hike Quote
bigbowtrout Posted August 30, 2011 Author Posted August 30, 2011 I cut loose from the hike early to head back to fish some more and to take some pics. Then I remembered the Bobloblaw rule and needed to add some purty flower pics to the mix. Quote
bigbowtrout Posted August 30, 2011 Author Posted August 30, 2011 So in the two days we spent up at Coral we had a group of seven horseback in to fish for a couple hours and we had a 74 year old guy show up Sunday after hiking in for two days. He said the hike sucked since he had to cross Coral Creek 22 timesHe set up camp with us and was gone first thing in the morning. The wind was bad when it was on but we had two hot and sunny days with lots of willing Golden trout to hand(Many in the 6-8" range and few bigger.Biggest was around 13"). I had great company and I can't say enough about the great service we had from Ice Fields. All in all it was worth every penny and ended up being a trip of a lifetime.I'm one lucky Dude Quote
darrinhurst Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Great story and sounds like a great adventure! I thought I did well with getting a BluRay player for my birthday..... Quote
hiketofish Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Great pics of the area and of course the fish. I fondly remember the "red pass" that you have a few pictures of as I hiked over it on the way to Job lake. Thanks for sharing a great family experience. Quote
Suntoucher Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Sounds like a great trip. I was also in the area on the weekend but didn't make it far as Coral! Seen quite a few choppers flying around but looks like they took the opposite direction... Quote
dutchie Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 that must of been a fun trip for sure , thanks for sharing it with us, nice pictures also Quote
SteveM Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Great story and sounds like a great adventure! I thought I did well with getting a BluRay player for my birthday..... Look at it this way: a year from now, when BBT's trip is a fading memory, you'll still be watching superior quality porn on that BluRay player... BBT- looks like a great trip, my friend; I really doubt that the memories will fade any time soon. Anyway, you have some fantastic pics to keep the memories fresh for years to come. I love the shots of the takes; brilliant! Thanks for sharing the trip with us! Quote

HopperDropper Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Wow. Hearing your story and seeing your pictures makes me want to go back there! When I was reading the beginning of your story, I had a sinking feeling and was thinking "Oh, No. Not again" but I'm glad to see that you guys were dropped off at the right lake the first time. Thanks for sharing. Quote
