Favorite Hopper

Recommended Posts

What's everyone's favorite hopper pattern for the Bow this time of year? I found using a foam body on choppy water works well for me, but is not as effective as a parachute imitation for slower presentations along the rivers edge where they have a better look at the fly.

Gotta go with the foam Club Sandwich hopper...works on pretty much any water, fast or still... However, size & color do come into play like most other bug imitations. Tan & yellow, tan and orange, tan, gray & yellow, gray & yellow in sizes 8 - 10 - 12. I find they work even when most of the hoppers are darker in color...probably 'cause most have lighter bellies. Knotted back legs add to the realizm, and leave the legs a bit long for more aciton in the surface film.

Used 'em in a fly swap at the fly club & rec'd calls from 3 guys who wanted the pattern 'cause they worked so well.
