ÜberFly Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Was scrolling through info on the New Ross Evolution LT - wow, seems like a really nice reel!! Anyway, I noticed the page for the "Balance" - Adjustible Reel Arm (http://www.rossreels.com/products/reel-arm/balance-reel-arm.cfm). Useful or gimmick?! P Quote
Jayhad Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Thats a lot of gear on a rod, why wouldn't you just buy a combo that balances. For the cost value and extra wieght I can't see I'll use one. For some it might be a god send. Quote
SilverDoctor Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I agree, going with a balanced combo in the first place gets you farther ahead. Looks like more junk to contend with that will eventually take up valuable land fill. Quote
headscan Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Gimmick for single-handed rods. Can see some spey casters seeing use for it, but this is a much more elegant solution: Quote
ÜberFly Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 Marc, Surely that doesn't retrofit on an exsisting rod, does it?! Yuu would have replace your stock reel seat! P *edit* Oh I see, it's part of a particular rod manufacture's design... Gimmick for single-handed rods. Can see some spey casters seeing use for it, but this is a much more elegant solution: Quote
Taco Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Looks similar in concept to some of Ari 't Hart designs Quote
marimichiwanabe Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Headscan Where does one get one of those seats? Quote
headscan Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Headscan Where does one get one of those seats? On the end of a Loop Opti Power spey rod. Don't know if you can get reel seats like that anywhere else. http://www.looptackle.se/website1/1.0.1.0/745/1/ Quote
Guest 420FLYFISHIN Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 some one will knock it off soon enough lol. I can see it being useful if you use the same reel for every different rod Quote
maxwell Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 the opti adjustable reel seat is a schweeeeeeeeeet idear.. specialy for the longer spey rods they havbe em on.. makes it easier with all the new lightweight large arbor reels out there too help balance out the stick!!!! i hope they put it on alot more of there speys! Quote
BruceKruk Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Not a gimmick.....it does work, other companys such a Ari and Abel have and do have a similar setup available. As for the big reel seats for the speys, B&W rods have had this option for some time and all Carron rods come with the same long reel seet, great for those big footed perfects.......who cares about balancing on the big rods when you can use a full footed 4 1/2 inch perfect, lol. marimichiwanabe Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Agree with Maxwell on this one as I recently made the mistake of putting the reel seat uplocking on a 16 ft spey and it takes 16 oz+ to balance it. A Hardy would be the only thing that would work. Quote
