Do some research on the web for flyfishn gattors. And dont give up. Been playing the gattor game for over 15 years and im just starting to put 1+1 together to equal 2. As for the line burning runs,AL has it pegged even a 25 pounder is like a bulldog. Lots of weight to push around but i have never seen a gattor come close to my backing. Dont expect to feel a tug all the time when the hit. I watch my line and hit on any movement of the line not the fly. Sometimes youll just get a slack feeling when they hit. PS dont take your fly out of the water till its dam near at your tip. Most of the time they will follow then hit as you are taking the fly to surface to recast. And most importantly have fun.

Temple Fork Outfitters - Pike Leaders
cuttbow replied to birchy's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I just tie an overhand loop knot and attach it to the loop on my flyline. For the wire to the fly any regular flyfishn not will work but i prefer a loop knot at the fly to increase movement. After a few dozen pikies youll notice the leader starts to get kinks in it. This add a lot of movement to fly so dont rety unless you notice the wire is frayed. Used to run a shock tippet of 40lb mono between the flyline and leader, After a few years i have just gone to the leader to flyline connection. -
Temple Fork Outfitters - Pike Leaders

I have been using the Berkey-Steelon nylon coated wire in the 30 ft spools. I use the 20lb and just cut off 6 ft and attach it to my flyline with a loop. The wire ties just like mono and a 30 ft spool will last you a couple seasons. Tried the crimp sleeves and melt knots but at $3 a spool its the best ive tried. No more lighters or pliers. And never lost a fly yet with it. -
Dont worry he will be sulking on sat. Bring your own jaw spreaders, bandaids, advil and lucky pike fly(Oops you gave it back to me). Brians a blast to fish with, all the gear he wants is in my daypack.Going for the big hens on sat, might want to upgrade that G&L 6 wt to a 10 wt. FFC will see a post to remember.

Oh the prarie fire. Remember going to Kalispell for weekend when the twoonies first came out. Poncho magoos. Ordered a prarie fire, Waitress said WTF. Threw her a twoonie for a tip as she had never seen one. Needless to say it was posted on the shooter board and we drank them all night long(free).Still remember the cracks about albertans. Cant remember the next 2 days and the border crossing couldnt see the hood of my truck. Havnt had one since.

ID go with 8-10 wt min even with 4-5 inch flies If your targeting spring pike and end up with a 20-30 pounder as expected in the spring youll be glad you had it. 7 ft of berkly tiable steel leader 20 lb is my choice. Be sure to check the water temp if fishin is slow. Its a little way off this year. tight lines

Agreed,Agreed ,Agreed Brian can sure chuck a line, art in motion. First time with a spey and 5 minutes later i was bombing line. Sure he knows im going to the dark side too. Bombing a full line with a single hander with one false cast. The man is a legend. A couple more hours with him and i might learn to cast.

Forcast is snow for rest of week will cool pike temps. looking at least 5 weeks behind last year. expecting a june frenzy instead of a may frenzy.Global warming my ass.

Official Flames 2008/2043 Seasons Thread
cuttbow replied to SanJuanWorm's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Ya ok check out the payroll of 56.7 MILLION dollars. Flames can come up with all the excuses they want but the trade sucked. Weve seen it once, weve seen it a few times, Flames in the lead then Bang! We only dressed 15 players, injuries Bla,Bla,Bla. Maybe the head man needs to be traded. Ya evr since Kipper got the big bucks hes slowed down. Yet watching lately the defence aint no screaming hell either. I think the flaming C is about to be extinguished. but wait might have a chance against chicago if they can dress more than 15 players. Everytime they loose they pull out all the excuses. Lets play some real 100% hockey.Earn your dam MILLIONS. -
Ok got it figured now. Bear spray, Bangers, Air horn and a sawed off 12 gu. Opps got one of those whistles that attaches under my chin on my hat strap. So if ya see me on the riva PLEASE dont laugh at the whistle . Its great to hear everybodys opinion on this. Just hope everyone has a safe year and dont have to use any of it. Brent

Should be able to find some , They just shaved 150,000 of them. But i do have a couple year supply. Just dont take your seal leaches to the USA its a big no no.

Ok does fishtales carry pepper spray. This is funny i picked one up from WS last year it says test yearly on the label. Exp date 2011. I just tried it, it didnt do a dam thing. Ya good for 3 years my ass. Test them out boys.
-
Ya Taco we fish the same country, Have heard of overshooting and putting the bear in your lap. But still i tested it and its 20 seconds quicker to grab the launcher. If your pullin out the spray the bears within shittin distance oh wait i see they have the glow in the dark triggers know. Taco are ya headin to BH.
-
Ya have ya tried low profile castin with a 12 guage on your shoulder. Hmm Might have to pull it out.
-
Ok here it goes. Ive been carrying bear spray for the last few years. i have switched over to the centerfire pen. Includes bangers and flares of two colors. I can get this out of my pocket and launch in 10 seconds-good for 150ft. The spray costs more , has a 20 ft spray and by the time you unholster ,pop the cap its too late . No expiry date on the pen.Spray has 3 years. Whats does everyone else carry to the deep criks. Both cost the same.

Male Fish Vs. Female Fish
cuttbow replied to misterbig's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Took a 30 plus bull couple days ago he had a jaw like a crock. Big old bulge on the lower jaw. The bows get the same but i find not as pronounced as the bulls anyone see the same. -
Go kool-ade Have a recipe from a old flyfishn mag has 4 or 5 shades of olives and the other colors. Cant be beat and 3 for a buck. Cant do the polar bear but i love the seal fur, Ouch sorry lynn.
-
Thats the same one Fishfreak ate. Now we all know what hes usin for bait. Helps to carry a spare rod with a big ass streamer in one of the just in case situations.
-
Ill just take the pontoooooon, 15 lb anchor and the trollin motor. Any one want to join could make a day trip of it. Anchor should punch through the ice a few times. Like an ice breaker just softer.
