No Neil......The place for those piggy's is in big sloughs with lots of cattails.......Can't say those sloughs are my favourite waters though----tend to lean to you and Taco with the small criks......Gotta fish!!!
-
You're in trouble now Taco for making your secret spots public........I know EXACTLY where this is!!...........LOL http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/2150/beaverckcuttsr0.jpg

I liked it Weedy1 and thanks for the heads up........Yes, I have seen him use bait on the Crow.......BAW's.........I will need to find a new fishing partner.....Much too dangerous to fish with Clive.....
-
Prepare an invoice for the value of the trip.......Send it to Kimberly Davidson at TUC in Calgary and as her to issue you a tax receipt.........Clearly mark the invoice "donation of item ___ Streamwatch auction".....

I got some sage advice from a "senior" guy when I turned 50...........He said "You can do everything at 50 or even 60 that you did at 20......it just takes longer, hurts more, and ain't as pretty"..........You got down the run and so you bought it on the bunny hill---so what??....You got down the run!........Great story..........

Ohmigod!!!........It was a kinda golden brown, wasn't it?????..............And wider than it was tall???............I still have MY copy in the garage..........And it got me through a couple of basements too........................Jeeeeeez!!!!!....................Old farts are us for sure!!!!

Flames Choking Early This Year
adc replied to TerryH's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
I think this quote says about everything that needs to be said about the Flames.....Got all the right words---"memories" and "almost"......For us old guys we might not even be able to think back that far............Kinda like the winter of '55!!........... Agree with Terry, they should take the Alberta crests off their jerseys........ -
Fish the TU lease.......Turn south on the Burmis road off highway 3, take your first right after you cross the bridge and follow that road until you see the sign........A good place to park, washrooms and a short walk to a good run of water just upstream of the silver bridge.......Just follow the path.......Good luck!!
-
I enjoyed the compliment too, Rob!!...........I worked hard to become a codger and I'm enjoying every minute of it!!...........And you know what??............It ain't hard to be cranky!!..........With all the stupid people in the world doing stupid things, you never run out of things to be pissed about!!...........It's a great job though and you and your Bud's will enjoy it!! Al.....

1) Don't think Police gets triploids this year.. 2) Stocking last year I think was 132,000, not 250,00.........Maybe 50,000 this year 3) It was a good year for ice fishermen and I hope they did well.....
-
I had EXACTLY the same experience at Douglas Lake Ranch with the loons..........But I like loons for some reason.......Same CANNOY be said for pelicans and cormorrants........Fish eatin' bastards!!..........

It's been a few years but I have fished up there a couple of times..........Chopper'd in----too lazy to walk..........There's a good campsite about a mile or so from the lodge on the west side of Magog...........Magog has some big cutties and you can see them cruising in the lake.....Best fishing is down at the Mt. Assiniboine end in the shadow of the "little Matterhorn" and there is an inflow creek..........You can hike all the way around Magog and it's a nice walk.......One of the most memorable fish I have ever caught was a 22" cuttie that my buddy and I spotted when we were hiking back to camp from the creek..........We were on a ledge about 60-70 feet above the lake and saw him cruising..........My buddy stayed up top and I scrambled down to the lakeshore to get a cast.......Couldn't see because of the sun by my friend directed my casting and I caught him on the second cast........Memorable for both of us and we still reminice....... Sunburst, which is a short hike from camp has rainbows and can be great in the evenings........A float tube is helpful but not a must.....I have never used a tube nor waders.......Cerrulean is the big lake and has big cutties but I have never done well there...........There is also a lake called Wedgewood (I think) which has brookies..........About an hour hike from camp through some good bear country........... I've always been there in August but I think ice is off for the most part by early July..........Absolutley spectacular country and if you get a thunder storm while you're up there that's a bonus..........Fantastic.......... Al......

That's a good qustion, Monger..........I asked the local bio. Terry Clayton the same question...........That blurb is in the regs so that anyone who catches a pike knows they can kill it so that IF there are any pike they get removed..........I have NEVER seen or heard of a pike being caught there........ Al....

Oh-Oh.......You member that picture you have of me with the big Cuban in my yap??............You destroy that image and I won't send this to Willie...........
-
Illegal stocking is a serious offence!! ........And I think the silver fish might find it a tad chilly in winter.......... There is good shore fishing from the island and the SW shore...........Some near the campsite but limited.......It is a nice spot for family's and you could hike to the US..........Not far!!

You are obviously all more optomistic than I am about the "scope" of this project...........With 45 campsites and a group campsite I will be thrilled if people are inconvenienced by having to "double up" or camp in Hawstoppah's backyard..........I wonder when the last time the Police Lake campground was full outside of the odd long weekend??........I know Don Shaw will be thrilled as well if we fill it as when we were discussing the reg's changes one of our positives was better utilization of the campground and the park............Anyway, I'm guessing we won't fill it, but please prove me wrong!!..........Hey, I never expected to raise almost $10k for Streamwatch through the online auction either, so WTF do I know?? :P
-
You're joking, right??..........The NEW regs are the same as Bullshead.........1 fish only and must be over 50cm.....(no bait, closed Oct.31-Apr. 1)..........If it was catch and bonk I guess the reg's shouldn't have been changed..........I doubt there will be many fish over 50cm. given past stocking levels and kill rates..........I think the ice fishermen had a good winter... ...........S to answer your question precisely it is CATCH AND RECORD..........
-
We may need a dram or two............Could be arranged, methinks...........
-
When Clive and I go down to put up signs I'll try and find the campground manager, Don Shaw and see about the group camp........Might be good although the sites in the regular campground are pretty nice..........I'll post a note on the Board if we can get the group site, though........
-
About 2-1/2 hours from Calgary---south from Ft. Macleod, through Cardston and watch for signs...........Paved road to the park.....Great campsite with 45 spots..........A pretty part of our country....... http://gateway.cd.gov.ab.ca/pubsandmedia/P...chure%20WEB.pdf

Was thinking my signature French Toast actually..........Yes, some good shore access and you can wade if need be........Wind, maybe!!.....

As you likely know, and thanks to your support last year, starting in April 2008, Police Outpost Lake will be governed by new, Delayed Harvest reg's........We really need your help to benchmark this fishery and we would like as many anglers as possible to fish at Police Outpost on the May 9-10 weekend..........Come Friday night and camp with your family and enjoy the full weekend or come as a group for a day or however much time you can spend..........We'll even try and do a complimentary camp breakfast for all the participants on Sunday morning....... What we need is for each angler to fill out a survey form that will basically track: 1)number of hours fished 2) number of fish caught 3) length of fish caught and 4) method used.......It'll be fun and this data will be invaluable in tracking the success of Police under the new regulations.......... I'll post more information soon concerning the data........Dryfly and I are heading down there in the next week or so to post some signs for the new regulations and while I'm there I will search out an appropriate campsite so that I can let you know what campsite you'll find us in on the weekend and where to pick up and return your log forms..........(And where to find breakfast on Sunday morning!!)......Hope to see lots of you there and I'll try and get a fix on rough numbers for the breakfast so please post whether or not you're likely to attend............. Cheers....... Al.....

And the best guide is Mario Graniel and he looooooves to hunt tarpon........Best guide I ever fished with..........
-
Cuba is a pretty cool place.....6 of us fished for 6 days.......I fished 3 days for bonefish and 3 for tarpon........Didn't land a tarpon until the last day.......Smoked a cigar to celebrate (I haven't had tobacco between my lips for almost 30 years!!).... The bonefishing was great........I caught 19 in total and every one showed me backing at least once.......I could have doubled that number if I hadn't been such a clutz on the secong day.......Couldn't cast worth stink and scared some fish that may be still travelling..........Most fish were caught wading in skinny water..........Fun! The tarpon were another story.......I had hooked a couple of tarpon (my first) last year in Belize which I had on for one jump each.......There is a knack to holding on to those fish.......I fished the river in Cuba the first day for tarpon and while we saw lots of good rollers I got skunked.....Second day for tarpon my guide took me out through the bonefish flats to an area he called "the channel"........We hunted for tarpon along the mangrove lagoons.......At the end of the day, 3 hooked, none landed.......The last day I fished the river again and by noon I was wet, cold and sans tarpon........We were fishing sinking gear and my arm was sore from chucking lead core, big flies and weight on a 10 wt. rod........Saw Clive at lunch an he had hooked 4 but hadn't yet landed the beast in his photo.......My guide then took me about a mile up a small feeder creek where there were lots of tarpon rolling.......I chucked the heavy gear (10 wt. with lead core and 8 weight with a sink tip) for about 15 minutes but nothing........Just for laughs I asked Manalo if poppers might work........He said "me no know but you try"......First cast and the fun was on.......Blurp the popper and try and keep your heart rate under control..........In 2-1/2 hours I hooked or raised over 40 fish..........Had 6-8 on for multiple jumps that were +20#...........Broke my 10 weight on a fish that sounded under the boat........I had him on for 3 jumps and I asked Manalo how we would get him in the boat........His answer "that tarpon not come in boat!!!).......He had him by the gills after I broke my rod but no picture..........I do have the memory however and the broken rod..........Thank God for gaurantees........Anyway, I had more fun in those 2-1/2 hours than should be allowed with your clothes on.......Will likely never have that experience again but will always have the memories.......
