  1. Yeah, this time it was only a spool of 6/0 olive thread but I've also done it with black DNA.
  2. Whenever you pick up a bunch of tying materials you will get home only to realize you already had at least one of the things you bought. This is usually also the most expensive thing you bought. Note that this is also a sign that you have waaaaay too many tying materials and poor organizational skills.
  3. Just use the "Search" button around the top right corner of the page and search the entire forum for either "overline" or "overlining". Some good threads to be found.
  4. I've never had my boot laces come undone - I just tie them up and tuck them under my gravel guards so they don't snag on anything. If I break a lace I just pull out the extra pair I keep in my backpack and I'm ready to go in less than 5 minutes. If you break your Boa (I've seen it happen more than once) good luck fixing them stream side. Sometimes low tech is a good thing.
  5. It comes down to brand loyalty. People will push what they like to use. Same reason you'll find threads where people ask about a Sage rod vs. a Winston and get a bunch of replies about TFO rods.
  6. G4 boots hands down. Easy to get on and off and the speed lacing system is the best I've seen. Very comfortable to hike long distances in as well, especially with the Vibram soles. I wear Zamberlan boots for hiking, so that's what I'm comparing against.
  7. Heh, I read three of those four in the last month. Maybe I'll have to check out Old Man's War next. For fishing books, anything by John Gierach, Roderick Haig-Brown, and Thomas McGuane.
  8. Yup. Already trying to figure out when I can make it down there again. Just ordered a 10 foot 3wt from Southbow today that should hopefully be in my hands by the weekend...
  9. If you're just starting fly tying the Flytyer's Benchside Intro is really good as well, though the Benchside Reference is more complete. The Intro book has a bunch of patterns with instructions and techniques for tying them. I have both and they're the only two tying books I'd never do without.
  10. I think that's because every time I had one on you were running to low hole me instead of taking a pic
  11. A few more from the day... Head of run hogging Hole jumping Low holing And just for Bobloblaw
  12. That looks a lot like the guy who low holed me on the Crow today...
  13. Wait, what?
  14. Ha, well I know which rod I can expect to see you using on Saturday. This is almost begging for "list your rods" and "list your reels" threads...
  15. Who cares? Center pinning is as much a "cousin" to fly fishing as spin fishing is since in each case you're using a rod and line to deliver some sort of lure to a fish. Fish how you want and as long as it's legal, screw what anyone else thinks.
  16. Country Pleasures, West Winds, and Bow River Troutfitters all carry Simms last I checked. Since none of them are in the north I'd call to check availability/sizes before making the drive.
  17. Don't fruit the beer.
  18. I heard it was an allergic reaction to eating 12 year old nuts. Count me among those not shedding tears for a pederast.
  19. Sweet looking trailer. http://www.simmsfishing.com/site/gallery/g...;media_id=00066

  21. Two quick points - snow in the city doesn't equate to snow in the mountains (snowpack) and we didn't actually get a ton of snow, but rather the colder temps kept what we did get around longer. http://environment.alberta.ca/forecasting/...9/overview.html Mountain snowpack Bow River basin: below to much below average except slightly below average in the Highwood River basin. At 3 out of 5 locations upstream of Banff, snow accumulations rank from third to fifth lowest in generally 25 to 30 years of record.
  22. Isn't that the same thing? NOTE: The above statement was a joke and not meant to offend anyone from Saskatchewan. Please address any complaints to steadyeddy@alberta.ca
  23. I've heard more than a few people say that there likely won't be any real runoff this year for a number of reasons - lower snow pack in the mountains, cool spring, not much rain. I also recall reading an article last month saying that we were in for a hot, dry summer. So the question is, what does that mean for our rivers and the summer? I've always thought of runoff as flushing the toilet on the rivers. It usually gets rid of a lot of the garbage, weeds, and didymo. Lower water levels combined with a hot, dry summer also doesn't bode well for fish in a lot of the smaller streams. Thoughts?
  24. Yeah, I saw one group pull their lifejackets off as soon as they passed under the 22x bridge on Saturday. Guess they figured there wouldn't be anyone else checking between there and the city limit.
  25. I've had the two wrap surgeon's fail when going mono to fluoro both when hung up on bottom and on fish. I was told to use a four wrap surgeon's instead and found it too bulky as well. Now I'll just use mono to my first fly then fluoro from the first fly to the other two. Otherwise I stick with all mono or all fluoro.
