Just an opinion and I know the originals were without but it would be like fishing a Turk's or a Chernobyl without legs.....a little mend and they come alive....

Was fishing downtown today at lunchtime and had a bunch of fish in front of me eating something subsurface I think. No fishing rising when I got there, I had passed through a nice run with a streamer - no takers...then all of a sudden fish all through the run were rising. I tied on a small BWO and EHC (with frozen fingers) but had no interest, even the insulting rise right next to your fly but no take. I was even getting bold and dropping it right on their heads - they just kept feeding. Any ideas on what it would be? The run is at the end of a long shallow river rock flat and drops off to a nice deep section but the run is we'll defined - like a funnel.
I did come across one pod like this yesterday and after trying 4 different patterns down to a size 20 emergers included which were next to impossible to see, I switched to a little tungsten backswimmmer and took 4 in 4 casts..... sometimes we have to cheat...made me feel dirty.... lol went back to the usual dries after that at the next spot where they were more than willing to eat on the surface

Besides I get a woody everytime I think about shitty dizzily snowy falls days, damn few people, 6 hr bwo hatches and a river just boilin' with fish.....
Lots of snouts today and not a soul on the river....... pray for snow

Hate to say to say it but your more in demand guides are often booked months or a year ahead and their favorite time to fish is the fall as the steelhead are calling and the best dry fly fishing is in the late fall so they are less apt to give up an un-booked day

Kings River I think or very similar although I have not seen the trailing shuck version.... very nice!

Yes, trout like pink ladies(epiorus) over most others... they are rarely refused
-
I have some friends that just throw slack at the fish after the hook up...hoping they get off...then on to the next one. I think we are getting old
Yeah unfortunatly that rarely works ...."The Tug is the Drug"

Great photos Rob heading that way myself later next week, see any of those other ones that eat cutties?

I was drawn for Muley buck so I will concentrate on that early season with the bow and later with the 270 weatherby mag if needed. I 999d most of the rest as I prefer to concentrate on one species as time is limited and fall fishing is the best and I can always chase whitetails or perhaps I will get drawn for archery antelope which is a blast. Monger which tikka do have I have a couple of M55s in .338win mag and 30.06 for the bigger brute hunting. Good hunting to all

Ha ha. I can think of better spots. I caught my largest bow river trout last week 27.5".
See photos.
Your guide said it was only 27" LOL

Took a while but found mine on kijiji for a 1/3 of the new price next to new and being a honda it will likely run forever
-
Buy a 2hp Honda short-shaft and you will not need one, weight=27lbs, runs all day and almost as quiet as electric

Hey Mon' Monger you're giving away our spots!

Can not speak from experience but having a number of buddies and sibblings who have done one or both I have noticed that the ones who were serious about rehab ie... commited to it have faired much better than those who did not take the rehab seriously!

Just a quick note to add,
There has been an event organized for this coming Tuesday, October 22 at 6pm till 10. The venue is Jack Astors on Macleod Trail and Southland Drive SW. It's for whomever wants to go, friends, fishing buddies, customers, guides who worked with Gord, or those who just want to show up and remember a guy who was the Bow River's advocate and friend.
There will be a small fee, $10 bucks at the door, which will cover appetizers, of which there will be plenty. Jack Astors is stepping out to help put on a great night.
For more info on this event, just call West Winds Fly Shop 403 -278-6331
P.S. For those of you who may not have heard, Gord's funeral scheduled for this Saturday at 2pm at the McINNIS & HOLLOWAY Crowfoot Chapel has been postponed at the request of the family.

Rob are those Northern Leopard's? Reason I ask is I have seen a big increase in the number of frogs on the river this year and I believe they are Leopards... I thought I had read that their numbers were on the decline.....Sorry for the hijack but a great thread .....
