  1. That same trip, I rode in a Surf ( I think. It was left had drive) that had over 700k kms on it. It had lived it's life driving BAD roads at high speeds. That's amazing to me. There are so many 'throw away' vehicles made currently. Makes you wonder why, when the technology/quality/whatever, is availible......and it's unlikely the cost of that Surf was double or triple or more than a throw away.
  2. I usually make a paraloop out of bright foam.
  3. A thirsty Tacoma. Those FJs are awesome, pricy, but awesome. Rode around in a Tacoma-like truck overseas a few years ago. I think it was a Toyota Hilux. Basically the Tacoma body style with the fold down bed sides and had a naturally aspirated diesel. I still can't figure out why it hasn't made an appearance in North America.
  4. For Sale: one pair Simms waders one north face jacket - blue
  5. Good to see you guys out there, at times the wind was very tough. We did OK, not sure on the final numbers but similar, worm was boss. Tossed some dries to risers, didn't work out. Fishpimp landed a gooder near the launch, nice ending. Very nice pics by the way.
  6. Simms Freestone. Great support and they don't look like moon boots. Only complaint is they have shrunk a bit, many wet/dry cycles. They'll be perfect for wet wading next summer. I probably have 80 days or so on them this year and I'm a fairly big guy, no quality issues at all. Next pair will be vibram.
  7. I don't think Ralph is the only one fishing with bait.......
  8. Right now, 6' from indi to point fly made up of 20-12-8 lb maxima (20lb holds the thingabobbers), 12" of 6lb p-line, next fly, 12" p-line third fly. I like to use lighter tippet on the bottom fly(flies), that way on snags, you only lose one or two flies. P-line is incredible.
  9. Shop Vac rules, keeps the greeblies down. Beware of hooks. I sunk a sz 4 streamer hook (fully barbed) deep into my big toe about a month ago. Had to cut my sock away, 'trim' the carpet, then force it all the way through, clip the hook point off, and pull it back out. Blood everywhere. I now pinch all barbs as soon the package gets opened.
  10. Hawg, you got it. Remove the details inside the trout, so it's just the outline or blocked in. If you want the logo color, leave the fish black and put rainbow spotting in one F and brown trout spotting in the other F. I'll take a hoodie and some stickers.
  11. How about just FFC, with the C being a tailwalking/jumping trout similar to the Simms trout? Sorry, zero skills, otherwise I'd do it myself. Like the fish head idea too
  12. Sport Fishing on the Fly is good. Not a huge fan of Flymax. To many 9 minute guitar solos and no information ie, techniques, flies ect. The Trout Bum DVD series is awesome.
  13. It's not finding any fish? Hey-yo!
  14. I know more than one guy that swear they're NEVER going back to Russia. One lived on Mars bars and Doritos for the final two weeks of his hitch. Their beer is alright. I spent a month in one of the 'istans and drank a pile of Russian Baltika Fives. Just about as much vodka, not so good. Worst was fermented camel milk. I traded a local guy a can of Copenhagen for their 'snuff'. I still don't know what it was made of, absolutely horeeb. It was a green paste, smelled and tasted like death. When in Rome. Very honest, hardworking people.
  15. I took a folding banquet table and cut about 2" off each leg, it's a good height. Sprayed the top with craft glue and covered it with poker table green felt. It's easy on the eyes and I find it's easier to pick materials up off of it but will still 'catch' excess dubbing, thread, ect. so they don't end up in the cold air return. I just give it the once over with the shopvac when I'm done the session. I use one of those table mounted swinging lamps with a 120W bulb. It gets hot, but belts out light. For materials, one of those mega tackle boxes, gear guys use. It has enough compartments to keep things fairly organized and works well for trips too. Anything that doesn't fit in it, goes in some medium sized tupperware containers. If you can, put you're desk/table somewhere where you'll get natural light. I find that the more organized I stay, the more efficient I am.
  16. I wouldn't stand on the side of hwy 2 to hand out a 5 kph ticket either. I haven't seen any more sheriffs than usual out lately, but have seen an increase in the number of heavy commercial vehicles pulled over by the DOT guys. Good to see, they don't wreck very often, but when they do, man is it bad.
  17. I've ran into a few of their guides on the river, and they're awesome guys. Had a rough day earlier this year, he waved us in and hooked us up with a few hot flies. Helped us out and looked like a stud in front of his clients.
  18. I don't know if I agree with the registration idea, at least on an equal terms basis. To me it doesn't seem right that the hiker pays the same as the guy who drags four quads and two dirt bikes out in the back of his toy hauler. It's everyone's to enjoy. Punish those who abuse it. I have to purchase a fishing license to fish. Maybe ATVers should have to purchase an ATV license to ATV.
  19. The only way people are going to improve, especially the ones that lack respect, is if it costs them money not to improve. Most people know better, they just don't care. The $30 or $40 fines do nothing. Littering, poaching, anything, $1000. No warnings. Someone I know, who is actually a quadder, had what I thought was a good idea. At the start, or during some of the busier summer weekends (ideally every weekend), mark as many random camping sites as possible with GPS. Tag each site with a license plate number and inform the owner of said vehicle, they are now responsible for the site. Any problems and it comes back to them. I realize it's far from perfect, but will put some of the responsibility on individuals instead of always depending on F&W or conservation officers. Volunteers could do the mapping. I know everyone passes multiple random camping sites every time they fish any of the previously mentioned areas. To tag a waypoint with a license number takes no effort. Email SRD with the coordinates and license plate number on your return. It'll be impossible to issue a fine to someone after the fact, but at least it lets people know their actions are being watched.
  20. I suggest the beefer rubber legs. I find that if you use the finer legs for more action, they get hung up in the elk hair.
  21. Both times I've broke a Sage, they only asked that I send in six inches of the broken section containing the ferrule(male or female). I assume to check the ID/OD for a correct fit with the remaining peice. Four piece would be different, probably just send the whole broken section in and call it good.
  22. If it’s me, I’d try either losing the split shot or shortening your leader (preferred). With the shorter leader and shot, you'll still get the flies down fast (with a good mend), but won't be hanging up as much. Occasionally touching down is good, means you're in the zone. Keep setting on everything. Also, with the shorter leader, you’ll have less ‘dead time’ from the take to indication. You're going to lose flies nymphing, rules of the game.
  23. I'd send that box right back to them.....it would have something other than the sunglasses in it though. I've hyped them before, but I'll never buy anything other that Smith. Shades or goggles. My last 'broken' pair went back in a ziploc bag (all 20 some pieces) due to dog. I told the truth and said the dog chewed them up. Smith warranteed them, and because the model I brought in was discontinued, they let me pick which ones I wanted. WOW! I've sent 4 or 5 pairs in for warranty or repair without any issues.
