Sorry for the bombardment of posts about my flies....appreciate everyones opinions, and could use a couple more! Instead of butchering fancy streamers like others put in shadow boxes thought these would fit better in my talent, or lack there of. Hoping to frame these for a present for xmas.

alright heres another go. used some foam for the tail this time. tried to pack the hair tighter. used about double the hair what I did the 1st couple times. still think it could be tighter but hopefully it will come with some more practice...

    Mouse Attempt

Right on thanks for the tips everyone. I am unsure how much hair to spin at once, but i guess if you use just a little you will maybe get a fuller effect in the end? Will have to try the bic pen, was just using my fingers to pack it as best I could.
  9. heres a couple mice i tied. first two attempts. tried to stack the white hair to make eyes but didnt turn out the way id hoped. also the tails are just chenille and will fall apart pretty easy. oh and these are just baby mice... gotta say spinning hair is alot more fun then wrapping BAW's.....
  10. in my last year. B. comm major in accounting. glad you like your class...could use one of em right now...

thanks for all the responses everyone. I find it hard to look at a pic and try to replicate flies, but rather have the fly and look at it. so I took one that I had and tried to copy it. I think I'm using the wrong type of hook but not too sure if it matters. Will still use everyones advice. so thanks, appreciate them all. The Inspiration: The attempt:
  12. I was told the same as you brent. have tied a couple using them. just used some 20lb mono instead of the fireline i have cause i hate that stuff. the way i was told to do it, but don't. is to just put your line through the eye of the hook (when going to fish it). then stick a piece of tube on it and over the butt of the partridge shank, then a small bait hook. this would allow the hook to freely move and not be attached to fly at all. you can also pre-extend the fly by tying a small piece of tube to the trailing rabbit, then just feed your line through that. not sure how to explain it better....pretty sure that it doesnt make any sense at all.... but heres a couple that i tied. the stinger is too long i feel, and i havent attached the rabbit to the trailer hook...

  15. Same thing as Lethfisher...but oh well. 1st time tying these things, and using foam (even terrestrials for that matter), so thanks for the contest!
  16. I prefer yours over all the others. simple. stands out. and recognizable...
  17. who can pick up the most ladies at southland while fishing....think us young guns will win there.... in all seriousness this would be awesome to partake in and be able to meet many of the board members!
  18. Suppose it depends on each ones phase in the book of Hawgstoppah if they want to "compete" against one another..... "I used to say there was 5 phases of fly fishing. You can see where a lot of people on this board are just by most of the posts and comments they make. Phase 1 - just picking up the sport... bought a rod, learning to cast etc. Phase 2 - landed the first fish, starting to get the odd one here and there. Phase 3 - complete obsession with numbers and size of fish. Phase 4 - land a truly HUGE fish you don't think you'll ever top... start realizing there's gotta be more to fishing Phase 5 - back to the roots. You enjoy every trip out, fish or no fish. You go more for scenery, friends, and conversation. The actual quality of fishing means very little. Small fish, big fish, who cares... you like them all laugh.gif" Sounds like fun!! if theres a young guns team im in BBB

I tried to use head cement for both the rabbit and the eyes...didn't work as it was too runny so i used 5 min epoxy. if i had crazy glue i prolly woulda used that for the rabbit strips.

  25. I use the dub for all my nymphs cuz i hate working with the real stuff. I find that using herl for dries (ex/ gnats) makes it look alot better. If you find the herl breaking you can wrap it around your thread to make it stronger. my .02
