  1. Sounds like the 7136 z-axis series which is a great rod for almost any fishing situation. A 13'6" is sometimes a little long for tight shorelines with heavy green to your back, but you most often can wade a few steps out to get away from the trees to make your casts. What weight and length is the Scandi Head?
  2. With a 12'6" or 13' 8wt. Spey, you can land those beasts faster than using a single hander. Spey rods give you the "upper hand".....(that's a joke)... Seriously though, when the fish comes in to be craddled, you point the rod behind you and swing em in, just like you do with a one hander. Casting big weight in a strong wind is not a problem with shooting heads, but you can use unweighted flies with sink tips to control fly depth. Unweighted flies on sink tips give you a more natural presentation (swim), better casting control and distance, with less risk of injury, then casting the weighed bombs on mono leaders...with yellow hard hats.
  3. Dryfly, I'd like to see you and ADC try slammin' a few of those 4 foot pike, with the two handers...Two hand overhead casting is easy and works great, so does forward Spey casts (roll casts)...Throws big flies, long distances with ease. I'll bring the rods/shooting heads and be your linesman/netman. That would be very cool...
  4. More from the "Kings of Cool"....click on the Trailers of Episode #12 and #13, on the bottom right... http://www.flythebow.ca/Fishing_With_The_D...r_Season_2.html
  5. Dan, come for the Stampede and the fabulous fishing that will be found on the Bow at this time of the season. The Stonefly/Caddis hatch will be in full swing and you won't want to miss it. It will be worth the headache. We'll see what we can do for your accomodations as well.
  6. I bring in one trout out of a hundred hooked &released, into water that was a little shallow (was'nt wearing waders) and this is the basis for your public flogging....thanks Max... bring on the cheap shots "bruther"... Hawg, you too?...Man, you think you know who your buds are...then this happens. Well I think it's just envy...grin...
  7. The term, "beaching", often used when refering to the method of landing fish without a net, does not mean dragging it up on the rocks. It means bringing the fish into shallow water and keeping it under water while removing the hook...
  8. http://www.looptackleusa.com/shop/product_...products_id=420 Rickr, maybe you should buy a two hander like Max's Yellow Loop 914-4 Then you will be Cool...just like us....
  9. Appology accepted... Another great photo by J. Tran... "River Dance".... http://www.jtimagesonline.com/
  10. Of course Spey Casting is cool...just look for yourself... "The King of Swing"... photo by J. Tran So...Pay no attention to that rickr...he's one of those "one handers".... We don't associate with his kind around here. He's just jealous is all, cause we all know those "one handers", all have an inferiority complex around the Spey crowd...the ladies notice that too...
  11. I agree Colin. We definetly should try and make it happen. The weather forecast is not the warmest for the next week, but it looks nice and sunny for Wednesday with low winds. We could meet in the pm when it warms up a bit. Pick a day and time and Max and I will be there.
  12. Maybe so, but he's still the "boss"... ps. Brian's in tonight and game for tommorw, see ya at 7:30am. You know the spot....
  13. How about Sunday at 1:00pm, which will give everyone a chance to get the chores/errands done in the morning?
  14. If Saturday or Sunday works better for everyone, we can change plans...Colin was having scheduling difficulties as well. I can make it, but would prefer the weekend if everyone is cool with that plan.
  15. Looks like Hawgstoppah's gonna stay in town tonight and join us tommorow for some Spey practise as well. All of you other Spey guys are welcome to bring your two handers and join us.. Hope you can make it.
  16. I have both the AirFlow Delta multi tip in 6/7 and 7/8, as well as a S.A. XLT 6/7 , 85' Head, long belly line, that should perform well on that rod! I also have a couple of Skagit and Scandinavian heads that should work on the z-axis 7136. We'll try them all and with sink tips as well.
  17. I think we should all meet up at Southland Pedestrian bridge at 9:00am on Friday, with all of our rods for a few hours. Max and I have 7 rods to bring and cast with a bunch of different lines. Maybe a couple of other Spey guys will join us too.
  18. Geeez, I could strap 21 foot'ers to the racks on that baby. Sorry LS, I can't refer anyone on the mechanics job.
  19. I need one of those...lol...Taco how much you want for her...?
  20. wow...timing or what...What are the odds...lol.
  21. Nice...I'll have to take a look at it the next time that I stop in at FT's. Fortuneately, I have storage which allows me to keep my 4 Spey rods fully assembled, ferrules taped, reels mounted, lined and ready to go on the car racks to transport them when fishing locally. It saves me a lot of time that I can spend on the water and I am more inclined on most days to bring two rods, one for nymphing and another for streamers with tips or in the summer I can set up one as a wet line swing rod and the other as a dry line swing rod. Now I need a good rod rack to stand the rods in for safe storage, when not in use. I have not been able to find one yet, so I may have to get Glenbow to build me one...I better make it expandable to hold a dozen rods...gotta think ahead.
  22. Beauty Steelie...Look at the Tail on the trout...wow. It's no wonder they pull like a freight train. Congrats and thanks for sharing a pic. Pacres...that is one crazy fly...very cool. I would try it on the Bow for sure.
  23. LOL...Max and Brownstone field tested them for me...140km with a 70k cross wind. But seriously, I know what you mean Brent... Take today for example, I hit 4 LARGE birds, one small baby in a stroller, and a large Stonefly that bounced off one of the 12 wt. reels and chipped the windshield...
  24. Hey Rick, nice talking to you. The rod racks are great for hitting multiple locations during a day of fishing, without needing to break the rods down and re-assemble again. I also can line/pre-rig the rods from the comfort of home and am ready to start fishing when I arrive at the river. As for the notion that it will damage the rods, I don't see, nor have I experienced, any problems in the 50 times I have used them so far. http://www.vac-rac.com/products.html
