  1. We are going to try and wrap this party up by March 15, 2008. When bids on an item have reached a resonable offer and/or have been posted for a period of time with no new bids forthcoming, we may mark it sold. All payments would be expected no later than the closing date mentioned. Thanks for your interest.
  2. The fishies thank you Hydro... The first time that I fished the Bow, with Hydropsyche, he gave me a dozen of his flies to try.... So, I decided to fish only with the ones he gave me. That day, I caught trout on 10 different patterns out of the 12. I did not have time to fish the last two till a couple of days later, which also landed trout.
  3. Awww, c'mon Hydro...let me put you down for a dozen of those awesome fly's you tie, for our StreamWatch auction....grin. It would also be nice if that Jet boat guy would step up and offer a Pro-Guided half day Jet & Wade for our auction.
  4. The Jet boat threads getting old so maybe we should talk about something a little more positive. Bump...
  5. Well said Don, thanks for posting it.
  6. OLDMAN RIVER STREAMWATCH AUCTION Welcome fellow Anglers, "I am so encouraged by all of the support, both for the auction and donations to the Streamwatch program. It just proves that when a good cause shows up, the angling fraternity really gets behind it. "Just to let folks know, the trips will meet in the Crownsnest Pass (or at the Gap), as I won't be able to pick people up from Calgary, unfortunately. And, it's the same as my old trips used to be when I operated my guiding service. Bring yer own lunch/snacks/beverages and prepare to start early and stay as late as you want... none of this 8 hour stuff... this can start at 7am and end at 11pm if you want. Be prepared to do a bit of hiking, if you want the best spots, but if the winning bidder is not able to walk far, I have some nice spots for that too. I'd like to do this on a Friday, Sat. or Sun., unless I have a gap in work schedule. Winning bidders need to be flexible when arranging the dates of their trip. I have 2 rods that can be set up for the trip, or bring your own (recommended rod is a 3-5wt with floating line, and if you got an 7-8wt kicking around in case we spot some Bulls, have it lined with fast sink tip)." 7. Hey Al, sorry for the delay and I will get an Auction thread started shortly....Let the bidding war begin!
  8. Great story Courtney, thanks for sharing.
  9. And now, if only more folks would step up and get involved...ehem...This project needs our support and we need more donations of items to help raise funds, so who's next to help the cause? ps. I'll bid $200 for the Trophy Pike Hunt with Dryfly and ADC....(What a bargain. Photo's pending.)
  10. We are looking for donated items that we can auction off, to help raise cash for the project. So if you can help by donating anything we can sell, it would be greatly appreciated. I'll start with the first item. I will offer a half day(4-5 hours), Guided walk and wade on the Bow river, with one or two anglers. I'll even bring Spey gear if that's what the buyer wants and either way, there will be lots of trout involved. Bidding starts at $200. Anyone want to go fishing with the Toolman, here's your chance. Big trout guaranteed...grin.
  11. I would suggest sticking with the 17/18th.
  12. Well first off, they are not technically called Spey rods, but actually two handed rods. The term Spey rod is used because these long two handed rods were first made popular on the River Spey in Scotland. Spey casting is the casting method that was developed to be able to cast these rods with little backcasting room. So, any rod can be spey cast, long or short, using one or two hands on the rod. A long single handed rod can be spey cast, but is not considered a spey rod.
  13. I think May 17/18th is fine, as these dates do not conflict with other fishing clinics we have planned for May (Bow River Nymphing Clinics etc), of which details will be announced in the coming weeks.
  14. Using a light two hander on small creeks, allows the angler to stay away from the edges of the shoreline and sneak a fly into a feeding lane without spooking the intended target. When I fished the Crowsnest, I was able to stay out of the water and hide in the tall grass, yet still fish in winds that were gusting at 60-70kmh.
  15. Welcome back...now lets see some of those fishies you've been catchin'.
  16. I like that...lol. Nice pic Neil and thanks for sharing. ps. Hey Tako, I think I remember you from FFA...let's see some of those Fish Pics of yours. What was your handle at FFA anyway?...hmmmm...let me think... maybe BCboy or somethin'.
  17. Both, May 17 and 18th, work for me, so the other guys can choose first, which day works best for them. Also wanted to mention that this Spey School is ideal for fisherman who are using two handed Switch rods as well as Spey rods. If you would like to give Spey casting a try and are interested in attending the school, but don't have a two handed rod yet, we can help you with that as well.
  18. I'm looking forward to fishing Stauffer and I've heard it is a great little creek. I love a good challenge.
  19. Were'nt you the one calling sheninigans last year Brent?
  20. Well Brent, the only point I am trying to make is that there are a lot of myths and assumptions made about Two Handed rods in the flyfishing game and I have encountered many that are false (most). As usual, most who are making the claims have no experience fishing two handers in these situations. I will fish Stauffer this year with my Spey rods....photo's pending. As for casting a #20 dry fly upstream, to a Brown in a foot of water, no problem, as it is as simple as adapting the line/leader and casting methods, to the conditions at hand.
  21. Wow, sounds like you have been Spey fishing for a long time Brent, or are you just recycling old assumptions? Maybe I should post a link to Team USA's, John Wilson, who's thread tells the story of how the European teams crushed them with the long rods on the little rivers, at last summers World Flyfishing Championships. As for the fight of an 18" Crowsnest Bow on the Deercreek, it was great, but I don't normally fish 14" Crowsnest trout for the "fight", as there are plenty of badazz trout on the Bow to kick my butt any day of the week.
  22. Hmmmm....I fished my DeerCreek 6126 with #20 flies, on the Crownest back in October and found it too be the right tool for the job. Did pretty good that day with Hawgstoppah if I recall and I think there may have been a post about it a while back... Thing is, I have been out with my two handed rods about 250 times in the last 15 months and have fished them in every situation on big water and small. There were many challenges that I normally would have considered using a single hander, as I thought it would be easier and it would have been, had I brought one, but....I learned how to fish my two handers in situations that are thought of to be the domain of single handed rods and to my delight, I found that long rods rule....anytime, anyplace...you just need to learn HOW to use these tools to their full potential. Then you will be amazed at the possibilities....Just my .02 cents on the matter. ps. Do you know how many times I was told "two handers are no good for the Bow or trout fishing, that's for Steelhead and Salmon".....Good thing I did'nt listen eh....
  23. We will arrange a second Loop Spey school on the same weekend if there is continued interest, as we seem to have already filled the first school. We'll get the available dates worked out and post them so we can decide which weekend/day is best for you guys.
  24. That's great guys and now there are only a few spots left if anyone is interested.
  25. The Loop school will extensively cover the use of shooting heads (Skagit & Scandi) and sink tips etc.
