Anybody have any reviews/opinions on a decent radar detector for that price range. Photo radar is killing me!

Is A 7Wt Switch Rod Good Enough?
RunnyD replied to RunnyD's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Not sure what type of salmon honestly. Thanks for the replies. -
Was thinking of joining my brother in Ontario for some fall salmon fishing. He centre pins and says they can get up to 20 lbs. The heaviest rod I have is a 7wt switch which I could over line with an 8wt line. I'm not a very good Spey caster yet. Do you think this would work?

Bucket List: ' Myrtle Beach'
RunnyD replied to ruffsranger's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Went there for my 40th birthday. Golf trip to remember. We stayed at the Barefoot Yacht Club and booked through myrtlebeachgolf.com. There was 8 of us so we booked 2 suites. Huge, clean suites with full kitchen and laundry. It's not ocean side but we didn't feel like we were missing out on it. Not sure if that's what you require but it was awesome. There's a mall nearby and some kind of alligator museum/park. Make sure you make it into town too, lots to see/do including dipping your feet in the ocean. We played TPC Myrtle Beach (DJ's home course), Long Bay (Nicklaus course), MB National Kings North (Palmer course), and Wild Wing Avocet. Out of the four, MB National was my favourite. Beware of the lemurs there. They like to steal shiny things out of your cart like range finders... haha. As for food, look for non-franchisy looking BBQ joints. Good and cheap. Golf is cheap there, it's just a long day of flying from the west. Enjoy it. -
Never tried it, but seen a video where a guy turned them inside out, hung them on a sturdy hook and filled them with water. Took a sharpie and circled pin hole leaks and then patched them. I use Aquaseal. Works awesome. Good luck.

Isn't Bragg Creek on the Tsu'Tina reserve? Do you need permission from the Band to fish there? My bad... was thinking of Redwood Meadows.

Go for the bigger net. You'll hate yourself when you weren't able to land that trout of a life time because your net was too small.

Humminbird Fishin Buddy

I have the 120 and the only issue I have is when I'm rowing my 'toon the unit likes to come out of the cradle. My next ff will be a separate head unit fom the scanner thingamajig. Other than that the side scanner and temperature guage are invaluable I think. -

Wading Personal Floatation Devices

If I have to wear a PFD on the Bow, I have no business being that deep in the water. My collapsible wading staff is all I need. But that's me... -
WoW. That's awesome. He ties better with one hand then I do with two. Thanks for posting.

I love my Scadden Outlaw Escape. I'm not a great swimmer, but with a PFD on I feel really safe in this boat. Maybe too small for what your looking for but setup and breakdown is fast and it all fits in the trunk. Dave Scadden is a good guy to deal with too. You usually talk to him when you call north forks directly. G'd luck in your hunt.

Best Reel In The $200-$300 Range
RunnyD replied to Smitty's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I have both the Hardy and Sage reels on your list. While both are great reels, I Ike the Hardy the most. For the price point you can't beat it. Hardy also has come out with a black ultralite dd reel this year. Looks sharp. May have to roll up my loose change for one. Unless you buy used, I'm not sure you can pick up an Islander for under $300. -
Always sad to see any kind of shop close their doors. Calgary, needs a fly shop in the NW. I'm not liking the big box store in Balzac anymore.
-
I have two of the reels specified, the Hardy and the Orvis. Of the two I like the Hardy reel the best. It has a better drag system but the the Orvis balanced better on my 6wt TFO BVK. If price is an issue, you can't go wrong with the Orvis. As for the Guru, I was looking at a 3.5 model for my switch rod but ended up with the Sage 1680. Cheaper and better drag system.

http://www.jessejamesreels.com/ They look cool in a DBag kind of way. Would you buy one? Comments/thoughts?

Just bought some mini sink tip line to attach to the end of my floating line. It came in a 12' length and was wondering if I need to cut it down. I usually dry fly and indicator nymph on the Bow with a floating line but wanted to try a sink tip. Any tips/suggestions? How long of a leader after the sink tip should I use, etc... Thanks.

Anybody have a number for the CO? I'll plug into my phone as a speed dial in case I run into the like.

Looking For A Loop Opti Stream Rod Review
RunnyD replied to RunnyD's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Thanks for the reviews guys. I did buy an Opti Stream from eBay but it was a bum listing as the seller said they were out of stock. I got PO so I went and did a little more research and broke down and bought a Hardy Zenith. Casted it in the parking lot of the fly shop AND ohhh my... What a beautiful effortless casting rod!! Stay tuned for a more detailed review when I get a reel and line for it. I'm giddy!! -
