  2. Good stories Rick. I got a "Lure of Fly-Fishing" 2009 Calendar for Christmas. Of course it has magnificent photos of mountainous streams/lakes and below each photo has some rather inspirational quotes. The November quote is as follows and reminds me of your stories. Nov- In every species of fish I've angled for, it is the ones that have got away that thrill me the most, the ones that keep fresh in my memory. Ray Bergman
  3. I've had my pt boat for about 3 years now and I have stored it in my boat bag in my unheated garage with no problems. Tight Lines
  4. true story. I purchased a pt boat a few years ago and quietly stored it in the garage without telling my wife. Then a few months later while at a family b.b.q my older brother (also a fly-fisher) blurts out in front of my wife: "How's the new pontoon boat?" I had some 'splainin to do when I got home. and again a year or so ago, when my fenwick HMX became the unwilling recipient of my unbridled anger, I went out and bought a new G-Loomis #6 and again didn't tell my wife, and again a while later my SAME brother blurts out "How's the new fly-rod working". Some people's kids....
  5. Agree with most of what Adams writes, and isn't it interesting how the successful car companies like Honda/Toyota and others are in the southern U.S states that have a (NON-UNION) work force. Should be as plain as the nose on their faces.
  6. Why do I fish? I can't put it as eloquently as SD, but to me the feel of that sudden tug at the end of the line jolts me into another world where the stresses of work, family and everyday life instantly disappear and the only thing that matters is this epic battle, and who wins it. Or seeing a well presented dry fly suddenly disappear beneath the river's surface, you feel for a few moments, until the next drift goes by without a second look, masterful.

  12. Slot sizes won't work in Alberta as nothing seems to make it through the slot About 800 lakes in Alberta support natural game fish populations, and another 250 to 300 are stocked regularly with game fish. Assuming all the lakes supporting game fish are equally accessible to the estimated 350,000 Alberta anglers, this would amount to a ratio of about 320 anglers per lake. Compared to other provinces, angling use is very high on many of Alberta’s lakes. To compare, Saskatchewan’s 94,000 lakes, Manitoba’s 110,000 lakes and Ontario’s 250,000 lakes each have a ratio of only 2 or 3 anglers per lake.

  17. http://www.trailstotrout.com/calculator.html according to the above calculator, the fish weighed an estimated 20.5 lbs (assuming 35.75" L x 21.5" girth) nice fish, but get a new net and chuck the piece of sheit you got.

  20. http://www.kalynacountry.com/fishing.htm scroll down until you come to 'Island Lake' http://www.srd.gov.ab.ca/fishwildlife/fish...statusfish.aspx Species of 'Undetermined' Status Smallmouth Bass Smallmouth bass were stocked into Island Lake (near Smoky Lake) between 1977 and 1984. Until 1989 there was some evidence of natural reproduction. It is not known whether this population is self-sustaining at the present time. However it is presumed there are a few fish left. As this is a non-native species, no special monitoring is planned. http://www.outdoorsmenforum.ca/showthread.php?t=1995 enjoy.
