  1. I'm a cheapskate when it comes to fishing so I don't think it will effect me at all. Never been bonefishing, or to Chile or to New Zealand or even to the left coast on a flyfishing trip. I have only used one guide about 5 years ago, and I have all the rods and stuff I need, tie my own flies, yup living modestly allows me to keep doing the same thing.
  2. Things are a bit late this year. I don't think any of the lakes are open yet. The only streams available are the Bow, Crowsnest and Stauffer. If you are north of Calgary then Stauffer could be the closest for you, but it's a real tough stream to fish. The Bow is usually okay, there's lots of info on the board here as to what's working etc.
  3. Yeah!! They opened the chutes.
  4. Try the Alberta Environment department. They have a water license user page on their website, but it's not up and running because there is no water in the canals. So here is the information query env.infocent@gov.ab.ca Good luck
  5. One? I've had so many. Heres the top three; the huge pike that leaped clear out of the water at Cross Lake. The monster bow that hit and spit my stimmie on the Crow, and last summer I cast along a log in the Oldman and long fat Cutt comes up and inhales the fly. Then I hear the "woof" and a yearling grizzly pops out of the bush. I just couldn't maintain line pressure on the fish, go figure.
  6. I usually only carry two. Nymphs and dries, or nymphs and streamers. Sometimes I have three.

    Goodbye

I send my condolences and wishes, I know how tough these things are. My father passed away last Wednesday and though he didn't fish much he introduced me to the sport. It seems that when they move on, is when we miss them the most and also when we fondly remember the times spent together.
  8. Those vehicles are coming here from Japan. It's because they have a timeline for vehicles and once they are too old they have to be off the road. Anyway there are a couple of companies in Calgary that are buying them cheap over there and then bringing them here and selling them cheap. You have to wonder what it's like trying to pass a semi on a highway in the mountains going uphill in the rain.
  9. Hey I know there are some computer general e-mail expert kinds on the board. I am looking at picking up a new laptop and was wondering what to specifically look for in a laptop. Maybe some recommendations as to brand etc. A Mac won't do as everything we do is Microsoft based. Thanks
  10. I would like to be in Florida and be casting to snook, reds and snapper.
  11. Well they sure did it against Ottawa, a good way to start the toughest part of their season.
  12. They are beautiful animals and those are great shots. Oh well time to tie up some rubberleg beadhead lynx nymphs.
  13. I kept and ate a cutthroat from the Oldman River. I fished the Little Red Deer when it was closed. I fished in BC......without a license.
  14. When I was a kid growing up in Edmonton we lived on what was the edge of town and the woman and husband that owned the offsetting farm drove up and told us they'd pay us a dime for every gopher tail we brought to the farmhouse. They drove up in a Cadillac and I was just floored to see a Palomino in the back seat, they were delivering it to someone who bought the horse. Then a couple of years ago at buddy of mine who raises sheep in the Strathmore area and 4 Lebanese dudes showed up and bought 3 lambs, they hauled them away holding them in the seats of an Impala.
  15. Hai! Kuogo dagrada!
  16. Some Haiku for the Dojo Trout in emerald pool Subtle rise up to the fly Glows gold in my net or An Elvis velvet For some is the same as a Rembrandt masterpiece or even Quaffing Wildcat beer Gives one the same happy buzz Like Dom Perignon
  17. Summer Stream Dreams The tree bows down to the brook Running as a childs laughter bubbling In the shaded green a swirling ring drifts Anticipation, the rod tip lifts the counterfeit winged offering into the air And alights on the water to dance amid the foam and the ripples Only to disappear, an illusion? No! the weight and the panic The jolt of the wildness That brings one here To a place indescribable, but never left once visited.
  18. I have hiked and fished in that area. Watch out for bears, take a collapsible rod, Marvel, Watridge and Leman are big lakes and a float/pontoon would be ideal. The Spray & Bryant are really good they'll hit the fly when it hits the water. There's not much pressure in the area, that's because it is a day hiking to get to most places. You used to be able to drive along the west side of Spray Lakes all the way to the Banff park boundary, that made Marvel and Bryant and the portion of the Spray just above the lake very accessible, but they closed that at least a decade ago so Mtn biking in is the quickest way to the park boundary, did I say watch out for bears. Last time I biked along there I rode headfirst into a black bear and at the park boundary there was grizzly tracks, looked like a sow and cub. Beautiful place, you'll run into a fair amount of people but not many anglers. To camp you'll need a backcountry permit, and you have to camp in the designated areas, also get your camp spot early if you are there on the weekend.
  19. Well they stopped the slide, maybe only momentarily because the hardest part of the schedule is coming. But they looked good, or the Habs made them look good, anyway they kept skating and going to the net and the result was well deserved.
  20. I used to fish a hole that had a lot of overhanging trees and I lost 2 dozen there one day. To the trees, on the bottom and to some fish too. That spot doesn't exist anymore after the big flood it got filled in with gravel, otherwise I'd be back there and be losing even more.
  21. Yeah brutal 10-2 at home too....oh wait this is the wrong thread!
  22. That is a different creek it comes from the south around the saddle by Mt Wilkinson. I think the name is Wilkinson Creek? Anyway I hear it has a few fish in it. There are a lot of little creeks around there that all have fish, it usually involves bushwacking and other fun which makes catching a little foothills jewel a great reward.
