Today, I discovered a new part of river which I have never fished at.
Side channel: slow and shallow.
Main current: fast
I am trying to figure out where fish likes to feed at this kind of structure.
I tried nymphing, had 3 hooked.
what I did is: I was standing at "E", cast to "A" and let it drift to "B". Most of fish I got was in the end of drift, when indicator reached to point "B".
2 out of those 3 I hooked were hooked on the side. They definitely was facing away from my flies.
Question: where is fish most likely feeding at? and facing which way? where should I drift nymph in this diagram?
I actually saw a lot of raisers at point "A" and "D".
Thanks for all of your help.

I just started learning fly tying.
Tied this one, had great success! I think it looks even more realistic than elk hair caddis. love this fly.

Was out having a lesson with Max. After learning basics on spey casting, we started to fish.
Yes, first fish on spey rod, not a big one, but still a fish!
Many thanks to Max, what a nice guy!

I would say the kids use the computer for on line games and surfing. We surf...video and picture edit, remote work from home sometimes and do Wordprocessing and Excel stuff. No high end gaming.
My only impression on a mac is that for the equivalent cost you can buy 2 PCs so basically upgrade every couple years versus holding a mac longer.
Any thoughts?
Also that new flash drive technology for loading up windows super fast seems the bomb. Anyone have that?
if so, you might wanna upgrade that video card in that list. Why? Nowadays, even online flash games can result in a lot of GPU (video card) power. Not to mention world of warcraft.
SSD?
a 32GB SSD = $179.99
a 64GB SSD = $259.99
a 128GB SSD = $379.99
a 256GB SSD = $774.99
a 1TB (1024GB) regular hard drive = $90
If you are not in a hurry, forget about SSD.

I love computer as much as I love fishing.
as for price, do a little math
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64Bit, English = $129.99
AMD Phenom™ II X6 1055T= $219.99
ATI Radeon HD 5450 1GB = $74.99
6GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz - 4 DIMMS = $229.99
1TB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache = $89.99
23.0" Dell ST2310 Full HD Monitor with VGA cable = $179.00
16X DVD+/-RW Drive = $29.99
total = $955, not includes other things
I would say $1000 is a good deal for this setup.
That CPU looks alright.
One thing to keep in mind. see that 6GB memory costs $229.99, i would say 4GB is more than enough for regular usage, 6GB is kind of an over kill.
I assume you don't play game, so that video card ATI Radeon HD 5450 is good choice.
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64Bit, English. Be careful about 64bit, not all old softwares you have will run on 64bits. The old software mostly run on 32bits (aka x86).
my honest opinion, if you have $1000 to spend on computer, this one is great. however, if I would pick one computer for my friend, I will try to put the cost down to $800.

Do you mean a 15' floating tip?
Ya, that's what I mean.
A skagit head is ideal for casting sink tips and streamers with the setup being skagit head -> sink tip -> 3-4' mono -> fly. On the bow a 15' type 3 sink tip is a good place to start and 3-4' of 10lb Maxima. Thanks for the suggestion. I got 15' type 3 sink tip, but I didn't have the 3-4' mono. I would have to get that.
I try to cast straight across from where I stand & then let it swing, & with the T-15 Sink Tip I find it get s down fast & put the streamers in the fish's depth. Then strip it back up where at the point where I sterted the cast as far as how much running line is hanging out of the rod.very helpful, thanks! I will give T-15 a try. the line selection is more complicate than I can think. lol
From my (very limited) POV, your leader may be a bit too long . . . but you'll mess with the taper if you cut it (I'm assuming you're using a tapered leader). However, if you're getting your nymphs where you want them you can just strip in the slack.Ya, that's what I thought too. You mean cut down the floating tip right?

Hi all.
I always wanna get into spey fishing. After talked to Kelvin in fish tale store, I got my first spey rod, echo 6w 12'6".
I have been practicing snake roll + cast for the past few days. It's not easy, but fun!
Couple questions in my mind...
1. I tried streamers, but don't really know how exactly it should work. I cast out across the river, and let it dead-drift downstream parallel-ish along the bank, then retrieve. Is this the way to cast streamer on spey rod? I watched couple videos, sometimes people cast 45 degrees downstream, and retrieve immediately.
what's the proper way of casting streamer?
2. What's good stream fly? (I know it's a big question) I tried clouser minnow, bunny bug, woolly bugger, but all catch nothing.
3. Is Nymphing on spey rod a NO-NO?
I searched, spey nymphing. I tried use same setup as on my single hander rod: 9 feet leader + indi + split shot + nymphs. My spey rod setup is: skagit head (24') + floating leader (15') + the rest. When I nymphing with this setup, the line is just so slack. Should I cut down the floating leader? I saw people mention Polyleader. What exactly is it?
Thanks, Eric

I am working in Airdrie and brought my fly fishing stuff with me. Is there any creeks in or outside Airdrie? I'd rather fish creeks and rivers but if there is any lake near by that would be good enough to practice my casting. I am willing to travel at least 30-45 minutes. I was supossed to fish the bow today but the rain kept me in.
for lake, you can go to de witts pond. it's a stocking pond just west of airdrie, and they just stocked a thousand rainbow recently.

My son just broke my Stylus 1050 SW (scuba diving, went to 60 ft or so and said "the camera broke, I thought it was water proof?"). Anyway, I'm in the market for a new one. Looked at the Panasonic on ebay. At $475+, I think I'll pass no matter how good of pictures it takes (divorce proceedings are expensive). I may look at the Pentax Optio this time. I really like the Olympus for ease of use, but I thought the older versions took better inside shots. But for an outdoors/fishing camera you'll love it!
it actually costs $369.99 CAD from saneal camera. you can just go to the store and compare it.

I tried other underwater cameras. No one takes picture as easy as panasonic, the AI mode allows take easy and good picture in/outdoor.
-
got panasonic ts-2
best underwater camera in the market right now. HD movie/wide angle
