  1. If anyone knows what the manufacturing company may be I would love to know. I have found some pictures of the boat from people selling them and I am missing the middle part of the frame which the seat mounts to, the wire basket that sits behind the seat, the removable gear bags, the oars, and the pump, The good thing is that I have a pump and oars and the wire basket isn't a big deal because I can probably make something to fit in its place. But I do need the middle frame piece and wouldn't mind the gear bags.
  2. Just found out that the hell's gate thing is a brewing company in BC and they gave these pontoons out as prizes. I have emailed them to find out who made the pontoons so I can try to track down some of the parts that are missing and find out what it will cost me.
  3. Does anyone know who the maker of the hell's gate pontoon is? My wife picked one up for me tonight but it is missing the middle part of the frame and the removable gear bags. I am wondering what it will cost to replace them. I can't find to much information on the net so far about this toon but it looks heavy duty and seems to be really good. If it is going to cost too much to buy a new piece for the frame then I might just get my buddy to weld me up a new piece for the middle and call it good.
  4. I have a chance to get this reel but am wondering if I should pass on it and get something different? The rod I am wanting to put it on is a gloomis xperience 5wt. I know that it is a larger reel but will it be suitable for this rod since it is a composite material making it alot lighter then an aluminum? Any info on the reel is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nate
  5. Brian pretty much summed it up in my mind. Fish for them the way that you want as long as its legal. Fishing is about having fun, not pleasing others. I was yelled at by an old guy one day on a cutty stream because I had a nymph dropper under foam fly. I laughed at him and told him to have a nice day and kept hiking.
  6. Hey Jayhad, Talk to sundancefisher. I think he knows quite a bit about eating trout raw. He had a thread on another forum asking about a fish that he wants to try and others that he has already tried raw. Nate
  7. Did you find that stuff south of Lethbridge? If so how was the fishing? I have been getting a lot of whites but can't seem to figure out what the bows are taking. At one point I had 9 or 10 fish rising around me and went through pretty much all my dry flies and couldn't get them to take anything.
  8. I run the 45lbs thrust on my 16.5 foot walleye boat for back trolling and have never had a problem with the mounting system. The digital maximizer is worth the extra money. It really does help in running a charge for quite a bit longer. I would say the 55lbs thrust would be a solid choice if you are going to use it as your main motor on the small electric only lakes. You don't have to run it at full speed but if you do need that extra power it is sure nice to have.
  9. Could you send me a pm with the company or where ever you are getting these from and maybe a list of flies that are available? I may be interested in getting some depending on what kind of numbers you are wanting to order and what kinds of flies are available.
  10. Try some big night crawlers. You will always get into unwanted species while waiting for sturgeon. What kind of rigs are you using for them? I have caught them on minnows and crawlers. Good luck out there. Nate
  11. I have a trend that has the exact same problem as yours. I contacted amundson more then a few times while it was still under warranty and they said they would fix it for a fee. I decided the reel wasn't worth it to fix after reading on the net of the problems they have had with those reels. My buddy had the same thing happen to his and both of our reels are now sitting in the garage and will probably hit the dumpster whenever I decide to do another garage clean up. At first I thought that amundson was a solid company with great products but after this experience I don't think I will buy anything else from them and I know of a few other guys that I fish with that won't either. nate I just talked to my buddy and I guess his reel is a model lower then mine. So they aren't the same but are still doing the same thing and are both useless right now.
  12. Can anyone give me an estimate on how long it would take to float from the cottonwood bridge down to the summerview bridge on the lower oldman? I am hoping to float that stretch a few times this summer and am just wondering what kind of time I would need to do so. I have never been on a river trip before in a boat so any info is greatly appreciated.
  13. It is a hand made boat that isn't a normal drifter design. The lady that sold it to me called it a canoe but it very wide and has a flat bottom. She said he husband built the boat by hand years ago to float the bow and oldman rivers and it is made out of oak and teak. I am pretty sure the oar lock sockets are a hard wood so I may just stick with them. The boat is about 4 feet wide and is 12 feet long. What should I get for my oars, those sleeve with a built in stopper or just the rubber doughnut stoppers? I will have to run the oars I have until I can afford to buy another set. I will look into getting a set of brass oar locks pretty soon. I will also be cutting some knee locks into both ends and adding a folding back boat seat for the rower. There is already a small spot at the back that will be a good storage area for an anchor and rope so I will get some oak and make a door for that area. I am still unsure what I should do for the whole anchor system yet and am still looking at options. I would like to keep the boat looking like an old fashion boat so the more wood and less metal on the boat would be better for me. I will eventually be getting some wood oars for that reason also. If you want to pm me your email I can get some pictures and show you what me and my father are working with. I think when we have the outside all refinished it will be a sharp looking boat. I am also hoping I can get my aluminum boat trailer converted into a trailer that can haul this boat.
  14. Can anyone give me any kind of info on what style of all mentioned in the title is best suited for a drift boat and where a good place around lethbridge is to pick them up at? Right now I have Carlisle oars that are aluminum with plastic blades. They are 6.5 feet long with red grips on the ends. I would like to be able to use these if possible but I am not sure if they will be long enough. Also there is no kind of sleeve or anything on the shafts so I may need to get something and would like to know what to get and where to get it. I also have some oar locks that are a zinc clamping style lock but I don't think these are very good and would like to know if there is better styles out there and what they are. Last but not least the boat that I picked up was homemade and needs to have the exterior refinished but the interior is still in very good shape. I noticed that the builder made some oar lock sockets out of wood and was wondering if I should just use those or go with some sort of metal ones? I am very new to this whole drift boat thing and would appreciate any help on fixing it up. Thanks, Nate
  15. I have a couple small finger nail files that I keep in my pack. It seems to do a pretty good job of keep the small hooks sharp when needed.
  16. Glad to hear things are going well. I am waiting to talk to a surgeon about having my back fixed. I Have been off of work for 4 months now and the boss says I can't come back until it is fixed and back to normal. So I have been going to physio, chiro, and hitting the yoga and core strength stuff on wii fit to try and help out until I talk to a surgeon.
  17. I have been in pain for awhile now and have been going to physio for 4-5 times a week to try and straighten things out with the nerve. They did an mri a few months ago and found out I had a bulging disc that was on the verge of rupturing. Just last week my physiotherapist made a request to my family doc to have me talk to a surgeon about having the disc removed. I am hoping I will be able to get in to see them right away so I can get into surgery pretty soon and get back to work. My boss has made it very clear that I will have to stay at home until I can get it fully fixed and back to 100% I am only 27 but have been dealing with back pain since I was about 12. I am very frustrated that it has taken this long to diagnose the problem but am also happy that there could be an end to it all in the near future. I have had it where I can't even lift my legs and have to crawl to the bathroom. I don't know if surgery is the best option but I can't sit around going to physio and not be able to work for a year or more trying to get this injury to heal and I think the physio lady said my back is far to unstable and been injured for far to long for it to heal on its own anymore. I feel everyones pain and I just hope I don't need a cathider. Nate
  18. Ok sounds good. Thanks for the help guys and I will let him know what he has. I guess it will be alot harder trying to find a full combo to swap for then he thought. Nate
  19. I am just wondering if anyone could give me any info on a gendis bamboo rod. It is an 8 piece rod that my buddy has and he is wondering what it is worth. He wants to get into fly fishing and got this rod from somewhere and would rather trade someone for a full combo that would appreciate a bamboo rod. Any information is greatly appreciated. Nate
  20. http://www.adventurealberta.com/icefishing.html Try this place. There is a bunch of guys on another forum that are booking some of the on ice cabins for a weekend in march. I am really hoping to go but can't commit to it at this time. You can stay on the ice in a 4 bed cabin with lights and a bathroom. You can fish through the floor and don't have to leave the comfort of the shack for anything. Looks like a good company. Nate
  21. Does anyone know if you have to send in the broken piece, Whole rod or just take pics and email them? I would hate for them to make me send the whole rod in and give me some other rod. Nate
  22. I am just wondering if anyone knows what kind of warranty Loomis has on their rods? I went to pull my waders and rod out of the back seat of the truck tonight and found the top piece of my rod snapped in half. I am not sure how this happened since it was in the case in the back seat of my little mazda b4000. No one sits back there and the only thing that gets put back there is the fly gear. Anyways I am just wondering if it will be covered under warranty or if I should try to find someone who builds rods to try and fix it for me? I am pretty bummed out about it since it was given to me by my grandpa less then a month before he passed away. Any info is greatly appreciated. Nate
  23. I was also having this happen to me fishing around the island at police from my boat a couple weekends ago. out of the 9 fish I caught I bet at least half were foul hooked on the belly in between the front fins. All were the smaller fish also. All of the bigger fish caught were hooked right in the mouth. I am just wondering if maybe they were stacked up in the shallows where I was fishing and were brushing my line making the indicator move which then gets me setting the hooks. Nate
  24. You don't need to replace the whole frame. There are companies that will just replace the sealed unit of glass. I work in the glass industry in lethbridge and have replaced many. It definitely won't be over your deductible so you are better off to just pay cash. Depending on how old your window is it could be under warranty. It sounds like you may have a slight tint or something that was put on the wrong side from the manufacturer and it has caused a heat break. If you have any other questions about it just send me a pm and I will do my best to help you out. Nate
  25. you are allowed to ice fish but can't use any bait. strictly artificial lures with no scent. If there is ice on the lake on opening day you can punch holes and drop a line. Same rules apply as open water though. Nate
