  1. Thanks everyone for weighing in here. I'm looking forward to trying on both the Redington and Orvis sonics. Sounds like there's not a lot of point looking beyond those two!
  2. Hey Pros, I'm in the market for a new set of waders and am wondering if anyone has strong feelings good or bad on the Orvis Silver Sonics. The sonic welded seam sounds intriguing. If not, what mid-range waders do you guys like? Thanks! Brandon
  3. Great video as always Dave. For the rest of you that like this video so much, if you haven't already bought the Sight Fishing dvd it is literally an hour of equal quality footage...definitely a good video to get through the colder months...
  4. Great fish! Once you start in saltwater it's tough not to go back every year! Belize is beautiful, where'd you stay?
  5. Agreed with Hawgstoppah. I find it's usually drakes as well that'll make cutties lose all inhibition. I've had similar experiences. In general, I use a drake as a searching pattern about as often as I'll use a stimulator. In my experience, once they've seen a few drakes through the summer, they're often willing to take them even if they're not hatching that particular day.
  6. I fish emergers behind an adult dry, with a relatively short piece of tippet in between (usually no more than 18") so you can see the take quickly.
  7. Wow, that's a pretty stellar looking fly. Nice job.
  8. I personally like anything rabbit. Double or single bunnies, oversized zonkers, etc. I usually use white, olive, or black (and any combination of these) with a bit of flash. Most important is the weight though, it's tough to have too much of that!
  9. That's a hawg - nice fish! I definitely didn't do enough chronie fishing this year. Good on ya.

    My 2011

As everyone else has said - those are fantastic!
  11. Those are some very pretty browns! Thanks for the post.
  12. Hey, On rare occassion I have done this; however, there is something about it that just doesn't feel right to me. It doesn't make sense because lots of people don't think twice about using three nymhs in sequence (I don't usually but that is beside the point). It may be slightly awkward to cast on a smaller rod but provided that you're comfortable with that it may be an effective way to have multiple presentations. One point of caution: if your leading fly is a #20 be careful tying to the bottom flies to the shank of that hook as it is likely to be quite flexible and could be easily straightened during a fight with a bigger fish. Brandon
  13. Great post; thanks for taking the time to share it with us.
  14. Not sure if I need to add another, but, very nice flies!

    Change Of Pace

    Beautiful fish Jeremie!
  16. Haha. Thanks for reminding me! Trust me, I was as disappointed as you are now when my visions of pike fishing on the fly failed to come to fruition. I think most of the fish had headed to deeper water by this late in the summer and the available fly fishing on the lake was limited! Thought I'd share the fish anyways despite the lowly techniques.
  17. I spent the long weekend in Saskatchewan and after being defeated by pike on the flies we traded in our fly rods for conventional tackle and looked for some walleye. The regs are so different there than in Alberta! Limit of 5 walleye per day with no size limits or slot size? We enjoyed several good meals of fish over the weekend and I managed to land this one; not something that I see very often in Alberta. This fish measured out at 30.5" and 9.7lbs although I think it was surprisingly skinny. We released this one after a few quick pics. Brandon
  18. Thanks guys, I am really happy with my season so far and certainly wasn't complaining! I am well aware that there are few places in the world where we can catch trout on par with the Bow. I agree that 24" is a lofty goal but one that I hope to reach anyways. As for the age structure comment that I made, I was mostly just trying to learn a bit more about the Bow system and understand if it was just chance that I had caught such similarly sized fish or if it truly was a unique attribute of the habitat/ecosystem. Thanks for the info! Brandon
  19. This is my first summer fishing the Bow and am having a hell of a time breaking the 24" mark. That has been my goal all summer and so far I have maxed out at 23.5. I've also noticed that outside of the one at 23.5, I seem to have hit a ceiling at 22" or 22.5. I have caught dozens of fish at 22 or 22.5 this spring/summer but next to nothing over this or even close under. It seems like fish tend to be 16"-18" bows or 22" browns with very little variation outside of this. Does anybody else notice similar trends with little size variation? Thanks. Brandon
  20. Hey All, The fish were rising tonight and I managed to hook three fish this size on hoppers; this was the first fish I've caught on a hopper this year on the bow. I think it is foreshadowing what August should bring us all! Brandon
  21. I am jealous beyond belief; I love the flats!
  22. Indeed, beautiful pics as usual. Thanks for the report.
