  1. I was going to hit up fortress today for a bit of exploration and skiing... I was turned back at the bridge by a couple of security people telling me it is now private property... I thought that was in a park, and as such, not a private location. Anyways, I will be back at it, but next time I will just hop the river and skin up the powerline until I hit the road... Went to chester lake instead, and the snow was beautiful... about a meter deep of light soft powder by the lake... I didn't go onto the slopes as I was unprepared. Jon
  2. Seems the flu is picking up speed but the hype is dying down! CBC story says the flu is picking up speed. My wife teaches undergrads at the university, and she tells me that those kids are dropping like flies. I work at the foothills hospital, and I can tell you that the ER admitting is pretty busy with sick people in masks. So much so that I heard elective surgeries have been cancelled to keep beds available.
  3. My 1970 chev pickup was a hybrid of sorts... put it in first gear and you could use the starter to drive around... Too bad I dumped it in the bow river...
  4. I will be growing one as well... Me and the guys at work are all going to have a fresh start tommorow... And by the end of the month Burt Reynolds will be looking on with envy! Best of luck to you, lets see some pics at the end of the month. Jon
  5. Don't bite your nails and don't pick you nose, and that should help.
  6. I have a theory about this. If a person has a really hard time driving a car with out being a menace, then they are VERY likely to be a menace while: shopping, biking, jogging on the bow river, walking across the street etc etc.

Cool pic... Can u say swamp donkey?
  8. This has to be one of the weirdest threads, so here is my addition... I eat mcdonalds when I do road trips to fish the coast... Nothing too bad as long as you don't chew too much. But here is possibly the funniest website I have seen in a while. Some sick ass food... Check out the meat-baby
  9. Whats your commute? Try taking a bike if its less than 10km... I started doing that about a year and a half ago, and have only missed 2 days (with a flu). its WAY nicer than bus/train... and when the weather warms up the scenery on the pathways can be good at times.
  10. No more pontoons at U of C rentals. they sold them off last year for about 350$ if I remember correctly... too bad I wasn't around that day.
  11. If Lance Armstrong were to ride my Mad-Max inspired commuter bike, and I were riding a fancy new carbon fiber cervello, I think he still might beat me in a race. Know what I'm saying?
  12. I have a redington 6wt and just tried the rio gold 5wt on it and I really like how it casts. Maybe I am weird, but it seems a lot smoother than the 6wt gpx that I have for that rod.
  13. Best of luck, those fishing games are pretty funny.
  14. Yeah, its a nice spot... All the little ones from last year are gone and only a handful of biggies are left... I'm going to have to start looking for new beaver ponds I think... Was a pretty nice surpise to find those guys.
  15. Got out for the afternoon and had a bit of luck getting some brookies to come up and take a BWO. My two best to date.
  16. Seems like it was a false alarm. Water is back to its normal blueish colour. Get those 4wts back out.
  17. Up about a foot from yesterday, but I imagine this is going to be the start of it. Water colour is a bit muddy with about a foot of vis at the crowchild bridge.. Time to get those streamer rods out soon.
  18. I like how they say "its embarrasing to have someone help you with your personal matters." "hey, would you mind coming one stall over and giving me a hand with something?"
  19. Its true... as we say in our household... the alley giveth and the alley taketh. The crime problem around beltline was horrible upto about 1.5 years ago. We were calling the police regularly and sometimes they would come. Once we saw a guy set up a small table, and start producing crack over a small burner, and there was a lineup of crack heads waiting to buy some. However, it is back to normal now. Not as many druggies around now that there are beat cops around. Nice enought guys from my perspective, but I wouldn't want to get on their bad side. And living downtown I have the extra bonus that I ride my bike to work every day and don't deal with the commute. According to the crime map the crime-free-est place to live is right near fish creek park by bow bottom trail. Not a bad choice I think.
  20. Was out on a bike ride today in the closed section of highway 40... Looks like it might be good for opening day. All the creeks and rivers I saw (didn't get to the highwood) were running pretty clean, and it looks like most of the snow is gone around highwood pass. Might be worth a look on opening day if the good weather holds. On a related note, there were many signs of bear activity, so if you do head out, be aware. Later doods.
  21. Just got to say... that dude has a rad mustachio! Nice fish too!
