  1. Best to fill the bladders just before going to the water. Changes in temperature can cause pressure changes in the bladders. Warm air to cold water can make bladders soft. Full bladders left in a warm vehicle may expand and rupture. There is a chance you have a leak in your bladders if they went down a lot. There is some history of the welded seams leaking in Fish Cat 4s. Fill the tube at your house and let it stand at a constant temperature for a few hours to see if you have a leak. Anchors....tie a rope from one side of the boat (off plastic D rings), around behind the seat, and then tie off on the other side. Make it slack enough so that the this rope can stretch back near to the point. Now you can tie off an anchor rope to this rope (I also tie my net off to this rope). I use an 8lb rubberized dumb-bell weight from Walmart. Get some 1/4-5/16" cord for your anchor line (can wrap it around the dumbbell). I tied single knots in the line at 5 ft marks to give me an idea of water depth. Flippers...go to a dive shop and get some diving fins that slip over your sock foot waders. They move way more water and you can go way faster than with force fins or other fins used over boots. There will be some water(couple of inches) in the back compartment. I have a wet bag the size of a sleeping bag that I store stuff in.
  2. Ice packs to the bottom, hair dryer to the top....pull/twist....nothing. So I just got mad and starting really flexing the joint like I was trying to snap it in half....slips apart. I agree to not adding anything to the joint as it will collect debris. I'm off to the water...got a date with an 8lber
  3. First time it's happened in 10 years...just lucky I guess
  4. Ok, I'll try hot and then cold. Thanks for suggestions
  5. My 2 piece rod has now decided it wants to be a one piece. It was separating a bit on the lake the other day and I pushed it together while on the water. I tried the old "behind the knees" separation pull, but it didn't budge. Anyone got a trick for separating rods?
  6. Looks great. I'd try it on a straight hook...might come through the water better when stripping
  7. Onchorynchus 'mericanus indeed
  8. The bonus on top of the fish
  9. This fish is far from Calgary...and she was not the biggest one I saw. Can't wait for the next adventure
  10. Awesome Brian. Big, slow head shakes get the adrenaline flowing. Here's one from a ways south of your location
  11. In Africa they stake a goat to the ground for leopards and hide in a tree. In the C Hills they'll have to stake a turkey
  12. I believe they thought there was at least 8 a couple of years ago. Lots of prey around to build a population of cats for sure. A little respect for muzzle blasts might not be a bad idea. The turkeys are totally voting yes to the hunt.
  13. I've got one with the "gravel" in it as well. Just waiting for it to totally fail
  14. The fish doctor is a legend in SW Alberta. 9.5lb of public water rainbow....secret spot #2799
  15. Fish finders....that's cheating Cold water can equal big fish says my buddy...
  16. Taco, I have a strong alligator clip with a small lead weight attached. I clamp it on my fly and drop it down to check depth. Very cheap, very useful tool. Moving around a bit allows you to "map" the bottom until you get a fish finder.
  17. Slower than normal but you just have to find the depth the fish are holding at. Sometimes they are sitting right on the bottom and therefore you must present the fly very slowly within a foot of the bottom. Other lakes the fish are holding half way down...you fish the bottom or the top and you won't have much luck. In cold water there often is a short window when the fish get active. Additionally, bright sun and no wave action can also really limit the number of fish moving around. One lake I fish just significantly picked up yesterday. Water clarity and temperature finally getting to a zone to make the fish active.
  18. Backing works well for repairing rips in your old net
  19. Too bad, but better than one less young man
  20. He used to work at Woodwards. A couple of guys I fish with know him.
