Nice! Now check your pm's.

I fully intend on doing that on the days where I don't have an invite to go out on a boat with some dudes on the Bow.

Chris, empty your inbox dude, I can't reply to your message!

My first strike! Fought like hell with that thing.....only to find out later that my reel was :$*%&: ! My first Rainbow, not bad for a noob! Chris hooks another....I think that was three on the day for him. And this little bugger decided to hitch hike home on my jacket! Found him after I got home with the kids in the car. All in all, it was a great day. I could have used a little less wind, I hope that it died down for Chris and Mike after I left. Thanks again guys! I hope we can go again soon! Darrin

Many thanks to Mike (leadhead) and Chris (bigbadbrown) for taking me out on the Bow today! I had an awesome time, except for that damn wind! Makes the casting even harder for a rookie to learn! I'll get the double haul once I am done learing the basic fly cast...... Here are some pics from our day. Beatiful Day for a fishin' trip! Mike and Chris surveying the water. Mike lands the first Rainbow of the day. Chris hooks his brown. And what a brown it was! 24"+ !!

All I do is plug my camera in using the USB cable that came with it, and use windows explorer to open a new window to view them. Then I just highlight all the pictures from the Card and use the "Move Selected Files" or whatver its called, and move them from the card to the hard drive. Does both jobs at once. Copies the pictures to the Hard Drive and erases them from the card. Simple. -
Not that I am biased or anything, well, yes I am. I work at Honda West. My vote is for the Civic, for obvious reasons. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I can also get you a pretty good deal.

Alrighty, I guess I won't be wasting my time afterall, which is good to know. Know I just need to decide on where to go. I won't do the Bow after my last two failed attempts, and considering that I am just learning, I will try somewhere different. I was thinking the Sheep.

Ok guys, honest answer to a likely retarded question. I have seen numerous threads on here praising the kind of fishing that one can do in the early hours of the day along with some great fishing in the early/late evening. I have Friday off, and am planning on spending the bulk of the day somewhere (haven't decided where yet) in the water. Here's the problem. I have to have my kids to daycare by 8:30 - 9:00 in the morning and then have to be back or done by 5:00 so that I can get the kids. I know that this may sound stupid, but will I be able to catch anything during those hours or am I wasting my time? PS - Any advice on where to go?

Yeah, so that whole "I'll feel a lot more confident the next time I go out" thing I said....well that went to s**t in a real hurry. Lost three flies in a span of 15 minutes. Wow was I pissed. Not only was I really degected, but I was annoyed at having to get my hook out of the damn bush every cast. Tried dry flies (lost two) and a streamer (lost one), so needless to say, I am feeling quite discouraged, but I am NOT giving up. I just think that the Bow is too high and too fast for a beginner right now. I need to stick to some other areas where it may not be so high or so fast so that I can get some confidence up not only in my casting, but in fly fishing in general. I have Friday off this week, anyone interested in showing me the ropes? And teaching this poor ignorant fool.

Sorry, I guess I am functionally challenged. Do the streams that lead into the reservoir have any fish in them? No mention of that in the other thread. I can reasonably assume that couldn't I? If one went into the Weaselhead area, could anything be found in there?

I saw a couple of guys walking along Glenmore on my way home from work yesterday, with rods in hand, crossing the bridge that goes over the resivoir. Then, as I was exiting to 14th, I noticed a couple of other dudes actually fishing on the bank of it. Are there actually fish in there?

Strip line?

Ok, so I had a chance to get out and practise some of my casting tonight. I did what some of you suggested and tied some yarn to the end to simulate the fly so that I can see where the leader was ending up. There were a couple of times where I had a knot in the leader again, but by the end of it, I felt that I had figured out what I was really doing wrong. I was using my arm too much and my wrist too little. I found that when I used my wrist more to whip the rod, it shot the line better and extended it further allowing the line and leader to fully extend. I am pretty sure that the next time I hit the water I will do 100% better than last time. Thanks again for the advise everyone.

Wow. Lots of information and advice. Thanks a ton guys! Several parks near my home, so I am sure that I can take the kids to the park while I do some casting and let them goof around for a while, while I goof around. Right now, practise, practise, practise. Next time I am sure I will do better. Thanks a million guys!

Been there, done that. Took the Country Pleasures one back on July 6th. It appears that I still suck even though I ruled during the course. Mind you I didn't have a heavy hook and a strike indicator on it.
-
Thanks for all the help guys, it is very much appreciated. I was happy to get out the other morning, but I was equally frustrated by the constant untying of knots in my leader. Almost ruined it, but not really.
-
Should I just use coloured yarn instead of a leader or tie the coloured yarn to the end of the leader?
-
When I am practising, should I be using a hook or a weight (split shot) on the end to simulate a hook? Or should I just use the line?
-
Hey guys and gals, just a quick question. Which style, dry, nymph or streamer is typically the best way to learn how to fly fish? I went down to the Bow below Cranston the other morning, and tried out the nymphs that I have, but I found that due to my rookieness (if that's a word) in casting, I was spending more time untying knots in my line caused by my strike indicator and my heavier fly weaving about each other. I found it quite difficult to cast as a rookie, should I be trying the dry fly until I get better at casting, or am I just casting challenged? Thanks for the input.
