Mainstream media (MSM) in Canada (CBC, Global, CTV, Globe and Mail, The Calgary Herald, The Edm Journal, Toronto Red Star, most other newspapers, HuffPo etc etc ad nauseam lean left and hate the right.There are dozens of anti CPC articles on a lot of subjects. Included are guns, aboriginal affairs, women's issues, gay rights, "the environment," climate (yawn...), forestry, GMOs, food production, health care... all real or imagined issues that the CPC have pretty much wasted or destroyed or otherwise messed up according to MSM...or so you'd believe. Canadian MSM could not report factually on most subjects any more than they could pour piss out of a boot with the instructions written on the sole. But I digress ... Please cite legislation and specific clauses that have changed in a way to make that make rivers and lakes less protected than previously. One thing you all should be aware of: for every BILLION dollars Canadians piss away pretending we can do something about climate change, that one billion dollars is taken away from real environmental protection. It is a criminal disgrace that enviro groups (Pembina Inst, Greenpeace, Sierra Club, Forest Ethics, Tides Canada, Suzuki Foundation) are forcing such a waste of money on our society. Weedy1 and jgib01 ... ha ha! Or possibly to make iced tea for the annual NDP summer BBQ in New Serepta, Alberta. I own two of these 1,000-L tanks: one as a nurse tank for hauling and the other as my cistern for my pressure pump system for two trailers at our summer property. Very common in owned or leased/rented summer developments. They fit in a truck box and suitable for hauling water with a 3/4-ton or if not full with a half ton. If I needed a new one, I'd post it on Kijiji.

Thanks guys. It really was a ton o' fun. High marks for being different. Fish are fish. Pretty neat watching them take the fly from about ten feet away, It was along the lines of what the famous Rancid Crabtree said, "Smoked carp tastes as good as smoked salmon when ya ain't go no smoked salmon."

Nothing is better than sight fishing. Bonefish on the flats. Big rainbows (for a few years) on the marl flats at Whitetail. Sipping rainbows in shallows. Lakers in Nunavut at midnight! Spot a fish...it goes for your fly as you watch. Great stuff. (And on occasion you manage to NOT pull the fly away before the hookup! ) My grandson, Adam, had his appendix yanked out last weekend so could not go to school this week, but naturally, was up for fishing today. We drove up to CPR Reservoir north of Coaldale to catch a few pike at the outlet canal. Hummm .... Dozens of suckers cruised the gravelly shoreline of the 50-m outlet canal. (Not seen them there before so obviously man-made global warming is causing this!! But Rachel will solve this by the end of the month according to her new E&P minister, Phillips who left her CBC job to take on the daunting task! Go Rachy! Go Shannon! God help us all!) Since pike (if there were any) were not interested in his spoons or my flies, we figured, "What the heck?!" I had three fly rods in the truck and so rigged an egg-sucking leech 60 cm below a strike indicator. The casting was bit technical, having to flick the line about one meter past the tip top with the bobber indicator landing about 2 meters off shore. This was not for beginners. It is call the ¼-haul flick sort-of-a cast. The fly could be seen drifting in the slow current. A fish would often suck in the fly so subtly (before spitting the fly) that the bobber never twitched. I struck a few of these soft takes and did eventually hook one that way. Most were never felt. However, some fish were a bit more aggressive and hauled the bobber down. Fish on! Be still my heart! Anyway we fooled around doing this for about one hour and landed quite a few suckers and I might add before you scoff...a couple actually hauled a few feet of line and one jumped. I kid you not! These are bottom feeders ... just like trout! All good. In case you are interested in emulating our efforts. Today's sucker gear included a Winston Boron IIX with unknown line brand and Vanish leader and tippet material. Hat by RedHead at Bass Pro. Sunglasses by Foster Grant. Boots by Muck. Flats shirt by The Empire Corporate Attire. Laff all you want. Adam and I had a blast!

Hypothetically speaking.... If I am fishing at QSF lake with a daily limit of one fish over 50 cm and I decide to kill a legal fish, am I allowed to keep fishing after killing one fish? This is a crap quality image (I don't like it anyway) after being uploaded to Shaw galleries...no matter. It shows what I was getting at. The sun is offset...and has not blown out the foreground.

Not really. Flare is flare. You could place the sun off to the side and the krypton glare would be reduced over the fish. I'll post an example. Sometimes a bit of flare is arty and looks good. Flare shots seem to be trendy in iPhone photos. Whatever. (Lots of great iPhone photos online, but 99% are mediocre record shots and that's fine. They are useful tools.) It is all about making the owner happy. Having a camera that shoots RAW files and underexposing a sun-flare shot and then working the image hard can bring up darker areas and ....blah blah blah. In the vast majority of cases, start with a good quality image and making it better in PSE or whatever program you use.

Especially for an underwater shot of a fish. You want the sun directly on the fish to show off the colors and details on the fish. Even clear water reduces the sun's rays on the fish. I dropped your pix into ACR (a RAW processor) and could not recover the details in the fish because there are none there...it is as if there was a sheet of paper in front of the fish. The fish body is washed over by the rays. Gardening time again.

bigdirty .. good question and KrookedOne's reference recommendation is spot on. Only you can make the decision...depending on your wants and needs. An alternative to the Nikon AW1 is a good dryland DSLR plus a good waterproof DSLR like those discussed at dpreview. Just a warning about kit lenses from ALL major manufacturers. Generally, $200 kit lenses are decent for casual scenics and people shots etc. However, if your long-term goal is high-end scenic shots for printing, at some point you will want a fancy wide angle and it will set you back (say) $800 to $2,000. Photography is a never-ending process of acquiring skill and knowledge and changing/upgrading gear. Start with good gear, develop skills and knowledge and upgrade your gear over time.
