I think its more about personal preference, and what you think goes better with the specific pattern you are tying.Swing what you've got confidence in!

I would look for a "speciality" rod. Sounds like you are using that 6 wieght for just about everything, but you could get something for tossin dries, fat streamers, or nymphs. Personally do not think that tons of money needs to be spent on fly rods, but you gotta find something that suits your feel and what you wanna do with it. Like ya said, start making your rounds on the fly shops!

yeah dude, i always think of the speed of the water...
Bucktail or polar bear for faster water and marabou or rabbit strip for slower water.

Id say stick with a regular handle... if your not fishing with a long rod, i dont see the "need" for a boat net. The opening should be around twenty i would say...
