  1. good job jay and ty....................all the way from the NS!!!!!!!!!! Ur vids r always killer.
  2. Ok, i have a 8wt reddington switch 11'3. I have both 450 and 475 gr skagit heads. Ive been swingin tips and big flies on the margaree the last month or so and dont seem to be getting the setup quite right. I can throw em outy there a ways but i think i should be getting more out of my rod as far as distance. Im not using a cheater. Made some type 5-6ish tips from an old singlehand line i had. Used diff lengths. Tied directly to the head, 12-20 inch tippet to that. Sometimes it seemed like i would blow my anchor and everything would just land in a mess. Other times i would kill it and bomb away. When it was working out i was only in knee deep water and the deeper i got the harder it was to get the line out far. I tried both heads and found the 450 a little better but my rod is rated for the 475 rio skagit short. Do the tips make much of a difference as far as weight is concerned or mostly the length to sustain the anchor better (stick). What should i be using for a tip length. Should i be using small cheaters with shorter sink tips to get a certain length and should this tip always be the same length regardles of how long the sinking part of the tip is? for example..............always 15 foot tip.....5foot floater-10 foot sink.................10foot floater -5 foot sink ect for a total of 15 feet? Ive only been out with the rod for about 10 days altogether so im still learning. Each time i try something different. im guessing the length of my tip is the factor that i have to figure out but not sure. How far should i be getting out there with my flies. Ive read 60-75 feet. i might have gotten 60 but deff not 75. Anyways , hope theres a spey junkie out there that can simplify things for me. Oh and by the way , i dont throw weighted flies, they r illegal on my home river for atlantics.
  3. Roll cast? Dude said he was having trouble overhead casting streamers. Its even harder to rollcast them. Just practice . Slow everything down and open up. Lots of people to help u out on here.
  4. Thanks for the input guys. No nore vise haters yet? hmmmm. a lot of them in other threads ive read on other sites. Ya don, the barracuda looks awesome with lots of room in the back for the bigger flies. Still not sure tho. Deff between the nor vise and the barracuda altho the mongoose looks cool. Any one have experience with the J-vise.
  5. So.....im in the search for a new vise. I now have a regal and a rensetti apprentice. I want a good rotary vise and have been searching the net for videos and reviews and still cant make a decision. I like the nor vise but also am looking at the barracuda and mongoose but still not sure. So lets hear some good advise all u experienced tyers. $3-350 max. Thanks peeps. I tie a lot of bigger flies also so would like something that will hold some bigger hooks for makos and blue dogs(shark) maybe like 4/0-6/0 but i know thats pushin it unless u buy the optional jaws for some. Thanks again. tight lines..........................................
  6. ya man....those sticks look awesome...would love to try em' but im a little out of the way unless ur up fo a road trip!
  7. Check out SA sinking head line. I use that for atlantics in the spring, Head is like 28 feet i think(cant remember) and i use the 300 gr on my opti power 8wt. Awesome line . Green with black head. also 250, 350 grain available. Good luck in the north cause theres alot of bigguns there!
  8. hmmmm....bully on a bomber
  9. nice fish dude.....headin up to visit my mom in august....maybe ill look u up and we can go for a hike
  10. double thumz..................like the salt water mask. bad ass
  11. What exactly are the advantages of fluoro besides its sink rate and limited stretch? I know its knot strength sucks and its obviously bad for the enviro.
  12. Hmmmmm..........good point, i guess i jus got used to overlining and it works for me, dry fly fishing is different though where presentation is key, but for bigger stuff i like a heaver line to help roll out the flies a little easier. Ive tried lighter lines for spey casting but it seems like a size up made quite a bit off diference for roll casts. Kinda wish the head on the gold was a bit longer even at 40'. U say the steelhead lines work well?
  13. I deff second the gold. i have a 6wt on my 5 and a 7wt on my 6. Overlining is the key for the faster rod for my anyways (and yes i have wasted lots on other lines that didnt work as well as the gold) U still got to get the timing down tho ... The gold is an awesome overhand also, to me anyways and im no pro. Everyone likes the gold. U still in the highlands
  14. fluorocarbon sucks, leave it on the shelf(rio that is). no knot strength at all or cut it back to the start of the taper and add maxima for the rest.
  15. awesone man, where were u at, u in the east?
  16. That thing is bad assssssss. All u need now is a bong holder. I suggest wearing a pfd
  17. exactly, that tazer probably saved his and the cops life
  18. BAITFISH PATTERNS. buggars muddlers, bunnies/zonkers single and double , chrenobles and if ur in gods country, a mouse should be all u need if ysa know what i mean
  19. usually 6 or more of every fly i tie or buy and all diff colors. depending on the fly and sizes maybe more than 6 but i know that carrying 5-8 flyboxes is just stupid. Im sure theres lots that have issues like myself. id like to break it down to just 2 boxes but since im not in calgary anymore i dont have to worry about that for the time being. Although here i just have a box for each species that i fish for , sometimes 2, but some of the boxes are like the big buggar boxes out there and arent gonna fit in a vest . guess i still have those issues. hmmmmmmmm
  20. first time i was able to even catch a fish on the bow was during run-off.Water way up and muddy as hell. show em sumthin big. Hawgstoppah said it right, big and dark, tight to tha banks in slack water. Probably something thats gonna push a lot a water so it can be heard. Ive used bowriver buggers, dark clousers, huge woolies and #2 all black cone head muddlers. I m no pro but it worked for me 2 years ago. No runoff lastyear much.
  21. about 500 gazillion billion and end up using 3. but ya never know, i mean, what if? just in case right?
