  1. Maybe it will remind said 2 boats already at the launch that it is in fact a boat launch. A launch is not an area to get the boat prepared, tie on flies, untangle your 3 fly nymph rig, strap down boat, inflate/deflate pontoons, hook up anchor, put rods together, disassemble rods, put on waders, place oars in oar locks, load boat with the days essentials, etc...

I say the above a bit tongue in cheek as I know guys have to go and fetch their vehicle, but really way to much *hit goes down at the launch that should happen away from the launch in the parking lot.

Oh, and I love the dudes that give the pissed off glare that fish just above the launches as you float through their "run"

No its not people getting ready , they put there boat in while i'm parking.I don't no why they can't wait the 60 seconds it takes to walk back and push out.

I agree,i had one fellow pack up his boat well i waited .I didn't take long to tell him to move it,he grumbled and moved ahead 30 feet and parked again. So i drive up behind him and blow the horn and yell get the hell out of the way i yell out the window go to the dam parking lot.He throws his arms in the air in disgust .I don't think he really knew what he did was wrong.I think he was from Edmonton.

  2. Why don't some of you Bow River fishers get together and write up a 10 or so point list of etiquette that you can post at boat launches (or even ask SRD to put on signs).

You could do some for Boat Launches and some for Wading Accesses, targeting each type of angler.

If you create signs, put the FFC logo on it, and put them up it would be a good service for the river and might alleviate some of the issues.

I think we could even put some down here... I'd chip in on behalf of the Chinook Waters Fly Fishing Club for a few signs for the Crow.

It would be nice if SRD would create signs though...

As a start to the list try the Montana guide association website: http://www.foam-montana.org/etiquette.htm

they have a list that Montana Guides are supposed to follow:

    • Floating anglers should yield to bank and wade fishermen.
    • Wade fishermen should yield to boats when there is only one navigable channel.
    • Drift anglers should never pass another boat to cut in on water being fished.
    • Avoid wading in spawning areas.
    • Pick up trash, even if it's not yours.
    • Motorboats: no wakes please
    • Keep access points and ramps open by launching boats quickly.
    • Conserve the resource. Know the fishing regulations.
    • Do not trespass on private land. Stay below the high water mark.
    • Don't let your actions affect someone else's fishing pleasure. Treat everyone as you would like to be treated, but understand that they may not share your sense of ethics.

The gov't of Montana also has this: http://fwp.mt.gov/recreation/ethics/riverRecreation.html

Clive even wrote a good bit about it here: http://flyanglersonline.com/features/canada/can23.php

**It's another reason that fishing guides should be regulated in Alberta...

I have seen signs at Policemans before saying basically don't lollygag at the launch. They just don't last, people just steel them.

  3. Either corky type indi's, (med) thingamabobbers (though many don't like the thingamabobbers), or the Phil Rowley indicators... Try all of them to see what you like (they are not too expensive)?!

    P

What don't people like about thingamabobs? Myself there easy to adjust up and down, easy to remove hold up a ton of weight available in different sizes.Whats not to like?

  4. Ya the rod you have will do for everything,If i can cast heavy streamer rigs with a 3 wt then yours should be fine.

My rule of thumb is the heavier i go the shorter the leader as it makes it easier to cast.

  5. Additional Restrictions:

•The edible flesh of legally kept game fish must not be wasted, destroyed, spoiled or abandoned (this does not apply to burbot).

•Fish must not be removed from, or disturbed in, any facility or structure designed to capture, hold or facilitate the passage of fish. Fishing is prohibited by any method within 25 yards (22.86 m) downstream of the lower entrance of any fishway, canal, obstacle or leap. Weirs and dams are considered obstacles.

NOTE: Fishways, fish ladders, impoundment nets, fish traps and other similar structures are set up to assist in the management or the study of fisheries, or to allow the passage of fish.

•Angling is not permitted through the ice: a) into beaver ponds or B) into flowing waters in Zone 1 (Eastern Slopes

In the general part just under "its unlawful to"

  6. Maybe your leader is too short/long or your dragging bottom too much,or maybe your mending needs some help.

If your right handed fish from river right, cast upstream and out about 0-6' away from the bank let the indi float straight back at you. This keeps the drift drag free.Strip line as it floats back, roll cast it out to get it air born and haul away.Work your way upstream and play with the length of your leader.

  7. Triploid on here has one,we used it for some spring lake fishing. You have to stay close to the fish to get a good view, but for the Bow it would work great when theres 3 in the boat as you could fit it all in.Going to upper K tomorrow with it.Just can't figure out how to post it on u tube or send links so others can view it.
