  1. I am almost wondering if the flood waters eroded the gravel / rock underneath that bridge piling enough to cause this collapse. I hope it holds until they drain the cars. The Bow River as a world class fishery depends on it.
  2. No words can describe the knot in my stomach. Please let this end well. Hopefully they can get some sort of a hose attached to the cars and get them emptied.
  3. I'd think the Crow may be the first one to be really fishable in the full sense of the word. A week from now may be pretty good. As of right now it is still near peak "normal" runoff level.
  4. Pretty sure they are "do it yourself" type of builds. With much ridicule from the neighbours to boot
  5. another issue ... however minor it really may be considering so much loss and devastation... is the fact that there are thousands and thousands of pounds of mud and muck now deposited on Calgary streets. Fishing the Bow this year after it clears up, when it rains it will muddy up extremely quickly.
  6. Well if I had to predict anything based on my experiences. 1995 massive flooding southern AB and from 1997 to about 2002 or so the crow was simply phenomenal 2005 flooding on the Bow and from about 2008 to 2012 the Bow was simply phenomenal 2013 flooding pretty much everywhere. 2015 to 2019 will be some GOOD years. Have patience!
  7. Jayhad. I'll bet you can do glenmore to carseland in about 3 hours! Might have to stop and let the poor folks do a little fishing!
  8. I too fear for all those small bridges up there.
  9. Good thing our hockey team wasn't good enough to make the cup finals then!!
  10. New fishing tactic. Head to the bowling alley first. Ask to borrow a bowling ball (or 2) Use them for your split shots. PLEASE just stay safe folks. My heart and prayers go out to all affected up there.
  11. I'll openly admit, I had to google it. I learned something today. HINT: prefix is from latin word meaning "down" - downstream to spawn might be why it uses this prefix
  12. double stonefly rig (for the Bow) fished a couple feet off deep slower banks right now. Maybe about 4-5ft under your indicator and fishing no more than 5 ft into the river, sometimes they are 1ft from the bank right now.
  13. Pic 1 if I am not mistaken is getting ready to rock and roll just putting in at Graves. Love all the bugs on the water, a sign of a good day to come!! Great pics, as always
  14. If you are shooting some film do not leave off the Highwood River west of Longview from your list. It's stunning. There are some gorgeous places all over the west country. Cataract creek has some really gorgeous sets of falls as well. If you are right in a campground you should be fine as stated with gear in coolers in vehicles. I've done that all my life. Like others said though, CLEAN UP. do NOT think "i'll clean up later and hit the evening hatch now" though. Just plan accordingly. Or you'll end up back at camp after the eve fish with a camp visitor.
  15. Sounds more like a simple casting issue than a gear issue. Make sure you are smoothly applying power during your stroke instead of "blocking" it or trying "too hard"..... anotherwords, try to almost gently catch your backcast and spring it forward... starting a bit slowly and speeding up your stroke to apply a lot of power as you come through it. Make sure you also apply enough force on the backcast... sort of like the "what comes up must go down" principle, but instead what goes backwards must come forwards. If it doesn't go backwards fast enough it's hard to get it to come forward accurately and powerfully. I use straight 8lb line when streamer fishing a lot of the time. If you are fishing a sink tip, use about 2 to 3ft of 1 or 2x in this water condition the Bow has now. Good luck!
  16. More quality campgrounds and zero random camping would be the solution. This place should be protected like a national park! It is a treasure and we are watching it get trashed. But that's besides the point of the original post. Back to your regularly scheduled programming
  17. SA Mastery WF, the you can fish it a bit better on breezy days. DT is also good, I just didn't notice this accuracy improvement everyone claims... I guess maybe inside out of the weather sure, but out in southern alberta on stream I'd rather be equipped with a line I feel will cut the breeze just a little, especially on a 2wt.
  18. I don't mean to sound snide, but at least he is trying to get somebody back IN the campground. Have you seen the place most weekdays recently? It is nearly EMPTY, while 2km down the road we have RV villages larger than the town I live in popping up (I really wish I was NOT kidding there). Right now your taxpayer money is mainly going to a lovely campground sitting over half vacant 75% of the summer.
  19. Yes sorry, you would be nymphing literally 1 to 2 feet from the bank, in the slowish side currents, and usually 3 to 4 feet is going to be enough. The fish are stacked where you'd normally be sitting down to tie a new fly on in September. They use the slow current and deflections for current relief, the main river is too fast and the fish know how to conserve energy and find a spot where three things attract them. Current speed, available cover, and available food. If you can identify locations that possibly have all three, try working them. Some will hold fish, and admittedly some will not. Experience will teach you which ones are the higher percentage locations!
  20. Calling her the "funbuster" as a much better approach. Take it from me! (ducks under flying pot, dodges 5 plates, slips out back door while 4 knives stick into it - see ya later this evening sweet pea!)
  21. Simple! Start up a small one man guiding service, and then tell her you need to be on the water at all times so you know what to expect when taking clients out!!
  22. Yeah I usually try and stay out of the city during scam-pede week. The fishing though.... man it's good... !! too good to stay too far away!
