Looking for a bit on info on flyline for my new Z-Axis 8100 (Single Hander not sure if there is Switch 8100) First of all the Z-Axis is a lot more rod than I'm use to, currently own several Launch models including a 890-4. The Z-axis although manageable (444 8WF) for my casting style will take some getting use too. Local Choice is down to 444, Performace Taper II, Wluff TT, Air Cel, maybe a GPX. I'm wondering about the Performance Taper II, Sage puts it off as the line of choice for it premium rods (of couse they do). Is this line rated heavier than its normal designation like the Rio Grand (+1/2 wt) or are they true to their rating. Any suggestions?

Lower Cnd $ = Higher Tackle Prices ???
126barnes replied to CrisD's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
They sure have. I've been in the market for a new salmon rod 8100-4 Z-Axis for some time decided it was time to pull the trigger. Dropped in to my local dealer and he didn't have one on the rack, so I asked him to order me one, said he would this weekend. After a day or two I started thinking on the exchange rate and decided to call another out of province dealer to see if he had one in stock and he didn't and could not honour his listed price due to the exchange rate and that sage has upped there prices. ($45 MSRP on the launch 4 piece I know for sure) and the new price would be around $890 plus taxes instead of the listed $695. Looking like I wouldn't be getting the new rod I called back the guy who was ordering me the z-axis to get a final price and thinking of cancelling the order, he said he found one in the back and the price was $689 based on the old price and the strength of the cdn when he bought it in. Can't wait to get off of work and try this thing...................to bad the season is over..............oh well there is always the salt. -
Very nice fish, but I suspect that the guide was looking for a nice tip.

Thanks Everyone SJW Thanks for that site. The new dyed necks will be great as I was looking for 4 or 5 white to dye for Atlantics. I'll give them a call monday and hopefully they will have them in stock.

Would you mind say which shop that is, I'm not from Calgary and would need to mail order them.

Does anyone know of a shop who has Metz or Whiting hen necks (grade 1) in stock..........................looking for 4 or 5 of them in a white or cream, can't find them anywhere. Apparently metz has a 8 mth back order and won't have any available untill the end of Nov.

First Successful Night Fishing Outing
126barnes posted a topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I had to drop the mother outlaw off at the airport (Seattle to St. John's is the prefect distance for a mother outlaw to be) the other morning at 3:30 so I decided to fish before I went to work instead of climbing back in the sac. So I hit a city pond with rumours of 5-6lb browns for a early morning session, the pond was flat calm at this point with little to no rise forms but I decided to go with a dry fly size 12 EHC aways. I approached the water carefully fishing the water I wanted to stand in first and eased my way out to the edge of the weeds that were on either side on me. After about 20 or so cast I figured I should switch up to a wet fly and made one more cast tight to the reeds on a my left. I stated reeling in my line to change up, when I got about 2 feet on fly line outside my rod tip a nice little brown explodes (I nearly *hit myself)from the water and hammers my heavily waking caddis. 30 to 40 seconds and two attempts at takeoff I have my best brown out on this pond to hand weighting in around 1 1/2-2lbs, this fish was all head definitely a meat eater. I checked to ensure that I didn't *hit myself which I didn't and tried to skate the dry fly to the best on my ability. To make a long story short I had another dozen or so to hand lost a few more and missed that many again. Didn't get any 5-6lbers but the fish were bigger that my normal day time fishing. Last night was spent at the bench tying up some bigger G&H caddis imitations and a crudely tied mouse which I have named "2 bagger" due to its pure ugliness, but I'll fish it anyway so long no one finds out I did. Can't wait for tonight, I for one am not upset about the short days that approach. Sorry no pictures as flash lights and camera phones do not capure the moments all that well. -
I bet I could land you with 7X it be no need for that 15/20lbs stuff
