  1. Nice little run of games for the Oil heading into the break. It's been kinda quiet from the "I'm a fan, but I like to complain and fire MacTavish" crowd lately. It's a welcome respite . Hemsky for Mayor.

  14. Good for you Birchy, Nice choice; I picked up the ten weight in that series a few months back and it has performed well on large pike for me. Enjoy!! Ayr.

    The Barracuda made a good acount for themselves, but they were somewhat out-gunned because the rod is a ten weight. If I had hooked into some of the larger Barracuda like I was hoping to, I'm sure they would have battled hard. Oh well I am happy to have hooked up! Cheers, Ayr.
  17. Looks like fun !! Thank you for sharing it with us! Cheers, Ayr.

    A little while later, another hit and landed the third of the day. The crew were gettin' pretty pumped by now! Towards the end of the trip I had one heck of a solid hit, the heaviest of the day by far, but it didn't stick darnit! Ten or so minutes later I connected with this handsome little devil. The chef at the resort prepared him for me and though he wasn't huge, he was tastee 8-) ! We had a great time in Cancun, it feels pretty far away now, looking out my window and seeing a snow covered everything! Hope you enjoyed the pics, all the best! Ayr.

    Picked up a new stick and ahead of a trip to Cancun, I thought I should get out to a local lake and learn how to cast the heavy thing. Here's a nice "practice" pike on the fly; In Cancun, we fished the lagoon side a bit, because the night before while looking from the deck at Senior Frog's there were young Tarpon everywhere (5-12 lbs.). I didn't get any action the next day from the Tarpon, but I did get scores of needle fish following the fly, roiling the surface, and trying unsuccssfully to bite it. This guy was probably doing much better.... On another evening we took a walk down the beach to a point of rocks, where we heard the fishing can be decent and we ran into a guy that was collecting tropicals for sale, he would catch them by hand :shock: . We gave 'er a short go as the daylight was fading fast; Weapon of choice; My wife booked a snorkel/shopping trip to a nearby island, transportation would be a 30 minute catamaran ride. I packed the rod, you know, just in case... :roll: . Once we got going (and going we were--fast!), I asked the crew of three if I could fish from the back of the boat. They said "where's your bait?" I answered " I don't have any bait, I'm going to try my luck with flies." They rolled their eyes (gave me the you don't have a chance look) and said "yeah, sure go ahead." I asked them how deep it was and they told me 15-25 feet, so I tied on 15 foot section of fast sink line ahead of my leader and gave it a whirl. It was about ten minutes later, after catching a fish so small that they got a really good laugh out of, I had my first good hit. Fish on! After an inspired little battle, my first Barracuda on the fly was landed; felt good. The Mexican crew of the ship were out of their minds when they saw me handle this fish, all three of them woudn't get any where near it, from fear of the teeth. I didn't even think twice about it, I mean we have pike.... Fearsome predator;
  20. Happy to hear it boys !!!!! Go Oilers !!!!!!
  21. QUOTE (TerryH @ Dec 8 2008, 03:27 PM) Sure hope you're right. So far, the Oiler's home record sucks. Terry Would you please clarify; are you two Oiler fans? Or not.
  22. The Oilers have made it through a brutal first quarter regarding their number of road games, and have done so with a winning record. "The Oilers have played 18 of their first 26 games on the road and now have seven of their next 10 games at Rexall Place starting Thursday against the Florida Panthers. In January they'll play nine of 12 games at home. " With a more favorable schedule in front of them, over the next two months, look for the Oil to make a move up the standings and challenge for the lead in the Northwest. Imagine for a second what might happen if the half of the team who are in wicked slumps, snap out of them...... Optimism warranted..... Ayr.

  24. Thanks for the report/pics guys, WTG ! Ayr.
  25. Nice start to the season, so far for the Oil ! A few observations; Strudwick--he has been a stable presence back there, so far so good. Hemsky--played his best game last night, making better decisions with the puck, high in the offensive zone. He isn't even warmed up yet. Nilson--Tazmanian Devil, last night, in a good way, loved his game! Gags--The points will come in bunches, if he continues to play like he did last night, dangled all night, leads the team in shots, a plus player at the moment--keep it goin'! Souray--Pleeeeze stay healthy ! Bertuzzi--has begun the season looking more like the Bert of 4 years ago. Very positive for flames fans, a bit scary for the rest of us. Iginla--possibly the best all-around player in the game, just love this guy as a player, although he'd look a teensy bit better in blue and orange ; )), It could be the best battle of Alberta in years, enjoy hockey fans !! Ayr. P.s. I think DD got the start last night because the Oilers want to see/get comfortable with him. If/when they are confident in his ability to back up Garon, look for Roloson to be waived for the possibilty of saving 1.5 million if he is claimed on re-entry, or in a perfect world someone claimes him staight away on waivers, if they can't find a suitable trade first. I'd like to see DD in another couple of games first, I'm guessing the Oilers would too, before making a decision.
