  1. This simple fly accounted for two fine trout on Sunday, and the same for my fishing buddy, we think the colour and the sequin added to the fly made it very attractive to the fish, we fished it deep and gave it a slow jerky retrieve, this was after spending most of the day getting nothing on the traditional winter patterns, as you can see it is very easily dressed and takes no explaining
  2. look's like we could be frozen over too, if this keeps up
  3. Just a something I think might work in the cold water
  4. Just a quick Czech pattern Hook: #8-#12 heavy wire Thread: Brown or White Rib: Nylon monofilament Body: Olive or green seals fur Thorax: red seals fur Underbody: Lead wire Shellback: brown plastic or rubber band
  5. I seen a guy on kielder water in northumberland using a fly very similar to that, he was slaying the brownies, as it happened he was from Ireland, so it must work with on most large lakes, I think he was fishing the drift, thanks for sharing it with us
  6. Thought maybe this might help, here is the equipment you need to make bead eyes, and below it the link to show you how to do it http://i25.photobucket.com/player.swf?file...ips/Cap0001.flv
  7. You've probably just hazed the finish, don't worry about it, some time variations in temperature can affect the finish, or maybe it's just where it was rolling around the roof before it fell, you'd know if it was the carbon that was defective, any way who's a naughty boy then leaving a sage out in the cold, next time you sleep on the truck roof, and put the rod in the tent
  8. Sooner us jocks get independence the better, then I can have the best of both worlds, my mothers family name was Surtees, means the Sir Tees, or the Knight of the Tees, legend has it he stood alongside Robert the Bruce at Bannockburn, " he was probably a cobler from Grimsby " but what the hell, nice to think my ancestors could have a colourful past, LOL
  9. I added a few white beads in the package, use them either for the buzzers or eyes, the secrets plenty of lacquer, keep building it up a little at a time
  10. A little fella that might just deceive friend trout into a take
  11. Another Salmon Fly for your side of the pond, great for Cutthroats, Steelheads, and Artic Char, as well as the spring run Salmon
  12. Thought you might like this one, it came from the States, and is effective on all trout but specifically Steelheads and spring salmon, and I'm sure if dressed on a #2 it could even tempt the shyest of pike out of it's hole
  13. Now that Bow River Bugger would work well over here when we have a spate, what size hook have you got it on cheeler mate,
  14. Same the world over when it comes to politicians, they're all plonkers, whatever happened to the good old feudal system, LOL
  15. I've just been reading about your plite with regards to the livingstone, it seems such a same, if theres anything you think we can do over here in the UK to help please don't hesitate to ask, I don't know if we can but we'd be willing to try, I'll put a post on our forum over here you never know, hope something get done over there
  16. Strangely, over here in the UK. we only tend to get them on the public holidays, they generally check all stillwaters and lakes, the rivers don't seem to be policed as well as they should be, the water bailiffs tend to hit the easy access areas but the beats and swims the illegal fisherman use are normally out of the way and inhospitable to get to so they don't bother, typical really,
  17. Please don't tale ofence but i found this pattern in an old 1908 tying book for a winter brown, so I've dreesed one Hook 16 to 12 fine Thread pearsalls scarlett Wing inner covert feather from a young woodcock Thorax green tinged peacock herl Head tied thread The book was by a GW Gallican

  19. Nice looking fly BBB, I've always woven them, but I think your way looks good to me,I'll try it but with darker shades for over here though

  22. Well the set up I have is a flourecent adjustable heavy base lamp, and the magnifier, was a 5" hand held fitted to an old lamp stand, take a look see
  23. I reckon GOJO is similar to Decosyl, that we have over here, clear orange gel, cleans everything and anything, we have a one now has polymer particles in it that aid the cleaning, personally I use ordinary washing up liquid with a nylon scourer, works fine, just make sure you let it dry naturally, don't be tempted to put it over heat, it'll bugger the cork up, if you're in a hurry use the cool setting on a hair dryer,
  24. Hi All, just thought I'd like to give you my favourite fly dresser, I doubt he will be known over the pond but here in the UK he's very well known for his innovative patterns his flies are tied to match at times some strange and wonderful things, but his imitation patterns are probably some of the most realistic around, the dressers name is Leon Guthrie, from Galasheils, in the Scottish Borders, Leon at present is not in the best of health, so spends most of his days tying flies, ( or Fleas ) as he likes to call them, I've included a link to his patterns on our forum in the UK, I just hope it works but these patterns I'm putting up are one of the deadliest flies I've ever fished with, we call them the Satanic Buzzer Please when using this link scroll to the bottom as we have the latest post at the top of the page, and please feel free to browse the rest of the forum, join if you like we'll make you welcome http://gameangler.eu/index.php?topic=1419.15
