  1. I would recommend the spruce meadows trout pond for beginners. PM me if you need directions. It's in the city limits too, C&R only.
  2. My uncle has grown and raised 3 of them, and I've been around them most of my life. They are loyal, smart, and affectionate dogs. But I'd hate to break it to you that pitbulls, no matter how well trained they are or raised, are unpredictable dogs. When I was 12 i was at my uncle's for a visit, he had a tan pitbull that knew me since his birth, and who I used to visit regularily. The dog used to sleep with me and not his owner when I'd stay the night, so obviously the dog liked me most. The dog used to come with me everywhere. He wouldn't even get upset if me and my uncle or my uncle and my dad horsed around. But one night I was sitting on the couch watching tv, he was laying beside me, and for no apparent reason he jumped up and bit my hand. I still have no idea why he did that. My point is, no matter how well trained or gentle they are, they're generally unstable minded dogs. Now for the topic at hand, fishing near a dog park and not expecting to be pestered is merely a case of sheer stupidity, imo. The thing that bothers me is how people can't read signs properly and let their dogs run wild in on leash areas. I've lost hope in all dog owners over the years. That's why I own the better and much smarter house pet, CATS!!!!
  3. Haven't been to carburn since 1998, I was wondering if the perch have gotten any bigger? any big pike being pulled out of there these days? Last time I was there I caught a decent sized pike, and seen ppl fishing the third pond but I can't recall ever fishing that one. Were they at all destroyed during the 2005 flood? Any info much appreciated, thanks in advance. Just wanna kill some time today and do something different than the bow.
  4. My whole block tonight had a backup of sewage, and there's insane amounts of poo water going through the storm drains. The city came by to fix it after they broke it tonight, and I watched the guy lift the manhole cover and it's full to the top of pure sewage, most likely going into the bow river. I asked the city worker where the storm drain led to, he said it enters the bow just above the weir. So, if you plan on fishin anywhere below that tomorrow...... well, good luck with that. Now you know why the bow smells like poo sometimes
  5. 1st was a crappy tire special. second was an old bamboo rod I found at a garage sale, still have it. next was a berkley then daiwa hardy gray's, still use it. now another hardy.
  6. I'm wondering if anyone knows a good place to buy some good freezer packs? Not in huge quantity, just enough so I have enough for 3 people for a few weeks at a time. Maybe I'm just being picky, but superstore and safeway meat are really starting to taste more like chemicals than wholesome meat products. Maybe something a little less pricey? I used to go to red deer lake meats to buy freezer packs but those are a shot in the dark now and not so cheap as they used to be, sometimes the meat is good and sometimes it has the same bland taste as grocery store meat. Any info apprecated. I kinda feel like a noob asking this on a fishing forum, lol.....
  7. Well, my car is pretty standard......so I'm gonna post my dream truck for fishing instead. A 1970 3/4 ton international pickup.
  8. I honestly never seen roads as bad as they were last night. Anybody get in any accidents? Supposedly there were hundreds of accidents. I consider my car good on the snow, but I hit the curb a few times. It took me 2 hours and some minutes to get from bowness to douglasdale, it was quite exciting actually. I did a couple of 360's too on elbow, too bad I didn't have my camera with me to take some video.
  9. LOL, are we really going to use CNN as a decent source for anything anyways? I hope not. What people don't understand is this is never gonna change so as long as we're breathing. Our garbage has to go somewhere, we need to cut down trees to make TP and paper, and we need fuel to drive. So I don't see what the huge stink is about, they're basically gonna be taxing us for more useless *hit. The only debate is whether climate change is caused by us or not, which doesn't truly matter in all light of things. Maybe I'm just having a careless and brain dead day today, but I just don't see what this big carbon tax based on these theories is going to do for us when it all comes down to it. It's kinda pointless arguing about something that's never going to change.
  10. Well, I think it depends...... if nature injured it, let it die by nature. For instance, if an osprey or something caught one and dropped it back in the water half dead within range of me grabbing it, I'd leave it. If I happened to injure it severely I'd do exactly what DutchDryFly said previously. It's not letting nature run it's course if we're the ones killing them. Good question though, it's tough.
  11. Well, you gotta base your facts on something that is credible. You guys all have valid points and I agree it's best not to pollute the environment at all. I see links being posted with no idea of who these people are who created this data or what they've done. Here is the bottom line: The UN has been basing their data on these scientists with the hacked files for years with the IPCC reports. This comes from the CRU, CRU is considered one of the world's leading institutions concerned with human caused global warming. The man who had originally had this stolen data confirmed he was hacked, and all data is true. I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on global warming, quite frankly I don't know alot about it. What I do know is how to smell a scam coming from a mile away. It's a fact they're planning to implement a "carbon tax" based on this data. We all need to know if this stuff is fake and we all need to question what they're doing and what exactly this carbon tax will be used for in light of what's come forth. Just to say you've read a few articles from some unknown it doesn't mean it's true nor gives any solid fact to the matter. It's been proven by credible scientists that global warming is not occuring strictly because our impact on the earth. Ones who aren't being funded millions of dollars to potentially produce false data to implement a freedom robbing scheme. And believe me, if they do this global carbon tax, it's not going to be a few more pennies every month. Just look at the source behind taxes, it's already a complete sham.
  12. I agree. I would recommend a hardy, or another TFO. My aunt gave me her 10 year old hardy rod a few years ago and it's still going strong, it's my favorite rod. I'm not sure what they're priced at though. My friend has a TFO, which is a good choice too. Good luck.
  13. Thank you for the tip, I will read up on that and let you know what happens. Thanks! You don't have to be sarcastic about it, I am probably wrong on that percentage but I'm going by what I've had to deal with, personal experience. I'm really glad you're not in my position and so many other people. And if you are a good landlord, I'm truly jealous somebody else got you and I have to deal with the unreasonable ones. I'm not being sarcastic either, I would die a happy man if I can have atleast 1 decent landlord while I'm still renting. Screw it, the fact that this bothers me so much is it's like I'm trying to rent a house made of gold. I'm not even complaining about the outrageous rental prices, which are also rediculous ontop of everything else.
  14. Well, you are right I guess. I finally gave in and gave away my credit check today for a house that I like. I'll tell you the story. First off, I went to go meet the guy yesterday and look at the place. I liked it alot, it was perfect. Today, I went to go meet this guy to give him the application and provided paperwork and pay stubs from me and my girlfriend. Here's where the rediculous landlord BS ensued. First I gave him the app. which included Me, my girlfriend, and my little brother who is disabled and who is my responsibility to take care of. First, he asked what my brother was doing. I told him like stated on the app. he was disabled, and I was taking care of him. he didn't like that idea and asked "why" he didn't go to school or work. "besides being disabled, I don't know why he isn't doing anything, I'm paying the rent along with my girlfriend" so I told him. Then he told me and I qoute, it was "weird" that he didn't do anything. Right. It was apparently "weird" that a disabled person doesn't do anything. Obviously my pay stub wasn't large enough for his liking, even though I could easily afford double the rent plus living expenses every month by myself without any help from my girlfriend. But, not the point. Then he asked me why my girl's pay stubs were different colored for each month, and started to make small insinuations they were fake. Now, I can see cause for concern if it wasn't stamped by the government. My girl works for the provincial courthouse, does he honestly think someone is that stupid to forge a pay stub by the government? at this time I knew this man was a complete and total idiot going on a power trip because he wanted to be picky about who he rented the house to. Then I took that stub he was holding and ripped it up and told him I'd get him more. Then he told me he might do a credit check. Contrary to what I said before, I buckled down and said fine, I didn't even struggle. It was worth it, the house is after all, suiting for us. Then after that, he proceeded to tell me he does criminal checks sometimes too. I laughed, told him to go ahead, I go into the US all the time for business without a single problem, never been charged. Neither has my girl, neither has my bro. Besides all this hassle and BS of trying to get a mediocre house, I didn't appreciate the insinuations and stare downs I recieved while handing in my application form. It was 10X easier buying a $50,000 car with low interest and higher payments. That's my point about this whole thing, landlords are 90% of the time just ignorant a-holes. If what I just presented to you is not rediculous I dunno what is. He didn't even own the house, a construction company does. Obviously someone was pissed I am up to par and can afford to live at the fuhrer's house. I'm sure he would have enjoyed, or may enjoy telling me I didn't get the place tomorrow. We will see.
  15. Good points, I guess I would have gotten mine too right now had I not had it before. I'd feel bad if I passed it to someone who would have a bad reaction to it as well.
  16. Well, besides the obvious different weights that come in black like tungsten? I have my own basic pattern for caddis larva and I always tie them with different types of beads. As for one producing more than the other...... can't really say. I never really paid attention to which one caught more fish, I always used black for weight and gold for flash and I've caught fish on both. I don't think it has to get any more specific than that, for me atleast.
  17. Well that's fine it might be true, but you obviously didn't do your homework. And you're right, I have something to hide, it's called "personal information". Would you like my SIN card number too?
  18. I had h1n1 already, confirmed last spring. Over hyped. I have a blood disorder too that puts me in danger of flu viruses, I'm 90% sure this is just a wasted effort and they should have took more time to prepare incase a mutation occured, like what's supposedly happening in ukraine. That strain is alot worse than this one that's floating around.
  19. I feel you about the cats. I have 4 cats, and am currently looking for a new place. I really understand both sides of the story. Some cats are sh*t heads and like to destroy everything they can get their hands on. My blinds on my front window are proof. But will a cat damage a house? no. The only real problems cats pose is of course the obvious, messing on the floor/ spraying. A cat cannot physically damage a house, or the value of the property. Saying a dog can't and a cat can obviously leads me to believe some people are lacking parts of their brain that work. Cats are trained like dogs where to use the bathroom, if they are trained they won't miss. Can't say the same for a dog, a dog can literally destroy a yard. The house I am renting now had a dog, which basically destroyed the yard leaving big holes beside the porch and the fence and a fairly large portion of the back yard completely baron of any greenery. Scratch marks on the once nice hardwood floors. Since being here, my cats have never once missed the litter box, the only thing damaged were a set of blinds and some odds and ends laying around my house that my cats decided to play with. Nothing severe. Certainly not enough damage to ask for a full month's rent in damage deposit. I'll never forget the time I lived in some sh*thole apartment off 17th ave for 2 weeks, and the dumb broad decided to keep my $1000 damage deposit. Even though I only lived there for about 2 weeks before I decided I had to get the hell out of there. That was really unreal. Oh yeah, the place was more clean when I moved out than when I moved in. Honestly, I was really astounded when I looked at a place and they asked for a credit check. Get real. I have 3 credit cards and my credit is great, but I'd never give some snob a credit check on me because they don't like the way I look. i would gladly give them references, but not a credit check. I've never missed a month's rent since my first place and don't intend to. Then again, I'm not even sure why I'm complaining, a good majority of the landlords here are scumbags and crooks and it's never gonna change. Maximum $ for minimum quality.
  20. It most certainly wouldn't be a press release, a very large handful of the world including the media has been hyping this BS for years. Under these circumstances, they'd be basically reporting on how badly everyone was played up for a fool. And that's if they don't do what they're told by the higher-ups. Besides that, it is confirmed by the man himself his computers were hacked, and all stolen documents are real. Now they're trying to say the files are misinterpreted, which is complete BS because it's all written in plain english they've been falsifying their statistics for nearly 40 years, there's no way they can be misinterpreted. What more proof do we need? LOL Hackers can be shitty, sometimes hackers can do some brilliant work.
  21. Don't worry, think about all those people driving escalades around and such. Unless you're rediculously over paid, nobody can really afford it. What I'd do is give it back, get something smaller maybe. Depending what brand you like, ford and chev, gmc too, have some great deals on pickups for under 30k.
  22. Sometimes facial expressions and the way one carries himself speak more than words. Many of times, nearly everytime I run into someone on the bow I get atleast 1 snarley look, depending upon how many people I run into. Whether I carry a spin rod or not that day, it doesn't seem to matter. I'm really sorry to hear what happened to you, and am even more sorry the guy was such a jerk it changed your son's opinion. Fortunately, nothing like this ever happened to me......yet. But you have alot of patience, I commend you for that. If that were me, I would have drove my son home, went back, and he'd be paying for a new rod and a new set of pearly whites to his dentist. Anyways...... I happen to carry a spin rod EVERYTIME I go fishing. And a big ugly tackle box full of all sorts of lures. I never leave the house without it, it stays in the trunk of my car infact. I think it's complete BS someone should be looked down upon for spin fishing. Everytime I go with friends, we all use spin rods because I am not the best flyfisherman, and I get skunked sometimes...plus, I'm not really wlling to dish out the patience to teach casting at this point. So spin fishing is more of a guaranteed success for my noob peers. I also must admit, I bring beers with me sometimes. Last time I went before season ended, me and 4 other friends just merrily had a little bit of fun and drank some beers on the shore, and took in the scenery, joking around with eachother and enjoying our lives in nature. That's one of the best times I've ever had fishing honestly, I wish I could relive that day over and over. But you know what? we didn't use illegal bait, we didn't leave any garbage, We didn't do anything ethically we weren't supposed to, we were quite a ways away from the city. Just good clean fun with some friends. A couple of fly fisherman walked by and gave us an evil glare, but I didn't care, I was having fun. It may have been due to the fact we all had beers and we were hootin and laughin at each other, or it may have been because we weren't dressed up like old men with bulky waders and a $400 fishing vest, speaking very low and drone. If you're not doing anything wrong, nobody has the right to say sh*t about what you are doing, where you are going, or how you are fishing. Pardon my language..... but this is a free country, you can use all the spin gear you want and if it's not breaking the law you can fish however you like.
  23. I know a few guys who do this regularly. Hopefully they are ok, I never heard from either of them in like weeks. I will give them a shout later tonight. I honestly don't know what people are thinking. Misjudement? stupidity? geeze, that's almost as stupid as wading in the drowning pool below a dam.
  24. No prob suntoucher. But in all honesty, even though the canadian government is corrupt too, atleast our government isn't totally as bad the states. I mean, what's going to happen if this so called union really does happen and we become just like the states? You think our hospital situations and health care isn't all that great now, wait till you have to go to the doctor for penicilin and it ends up costing you $5000 bucks, or maybe you're out of province and you need medicine because your prescription ran out and you end up paying $500 for 2 pills to last you till you get home. Or better yet, you download a song and your ISP threatens to cut off your internet. The list goes on. Not to mention this is probably only an excuse to drain us out of our resources for 50% off. I think this would be the downfall of canada. Maybe not the country itself, but the pride and way of living would sure be a pretty steep drop.
