Pretty nice looking rod though Rick. Why not open all of your options right? I'm just too old and stubborn to deal with any change that's all I'm also a die-hard former ski bum, so this Spey Craze looks a lot like snowboarders taking over the ski hills back a few years... I grew to accept that, so I think I'll get thru this too.

....Don't tell me you're joining that "Long Rod" group that is taking over the Bow Shouldn't be long before I'm the only person on the river with a dinky little 9 foot rod casting to rising fish while surrounded by a bunch of "Swingers" dredging the bottom

I was told this by two COs, and each person in each fly shop in Fernie. They said that it, (Dumbbell eyes), has been illegal for awhile, but has not been enforced because of the confusion due to the way it is written. I was told that they were going to start enforcing it and would continue to enforce it until enough people fought the citation so the Regulations could be changed. By the definitions for "Artificial Fly" and "Fly Fishing", it is actually very easy to read that Dumbbell eyes would not be allowed. Whether you agree with it or not, it is what it is. Both definitions are intertwined, so if something is not allowed on an "Artificial Fly", it wouldn't be allowed if "Fly Fishing Only" is in place because by the definition, "....using an Artificial Fly....", both come into play. "...No external weight or attracting device...." can only be understood to mean things such as dumbbell eyes because they do both do they not? This is exactly why I thought I would bring it up and give them a heads up.... It would suck to get a fine for doing something that you "...never heard of" that not only doesn't make sense, but isn't clearly written in the Regs. If I was fishing somewhere that I'd fished for years and got a fine because in the regulations it said I was required to wear my underwear on the outside while fishing there, I couldn't really argue if it was written in the regs....Know your regulations and if you don't understand something, either get it clearly defined or stray on the safe side. Being that these rules won't apply to LKs and Max's trip, this topic can be closed so we can get back to the original purpose of the Thread.

Last year we used a different and cheap way to get deep without tying in big eyes when we went for big Bullies. I bought some of those oval shaped weights with the rubber insert used for bait fishing at Canadian Tire. I pinched them onto the shank at the head and tied over them. Worked like a charm, but made it dangerous if the wind picked up. When are you guys going?

As stupid and confusing as it is, by their definition, using external eyes on your flies is against the rules. The definition of an "Artificial Fly" is: "A single point that is dressed only with fur, feathers, hair, textiles, tinsel and/or wire, and to which no external weight or attracting device is attached. Two or more hooks tied in tandom is not permitted. Where gear is restricted to artificial flies, floats and sinkers may be attached to the line" The definition of "Fly Fishing" is: "Angling with a line to which only an artificial fly is attached, (Floats, sinkers or attracting devices may not be attached to the line). The only reason I bring it up is because apparently they are going to start giving out fines for breaking these rules. The one thing they pointed out specifically was the "Eyes" on streamers. I would just recommend looking closely at the regs for the area you are fishing and then ask someone that would know which of the definitions apply. If the regs say "Artificial Fly only", then I would assume you could not use flies with eyes tied in, but could use Sinkers and an Indicator. If the regs say "Fly Fishing only", then I would say that by the definition, you still can't use flies with eyes tied in and also can't use Sinkers or an indicator.... Also be careful in BC because the standard technique of using 2 or 3 flies at a time is not allowed in most places and they definitely enforce that one.

Don got it right on the nose with Light and Dark. Reason being that water clarity can drastically change thru-out the day and/or the trip, so you want to have both options available to suit the water clarity. Definitely have different sizes and weights available as well. By changing to a fly one size bigger or smaller, or lighter/heavier, can make all the difference. I personally love the "Intruder" style flies in various weights and sizes, but have always done well with the same old streamers I use on the Bow, so don't go too crazy tying "Steelhead" flies because you may end up tying a bunch of flies that either don't work, or you don't get a chance to use. Purple, Pink and Black with Silver flash is my favorite color combo. Make sure you have various egg patterns with you too. Single Glo-eggs and multi-egg sacs can both be deadly. As Don said, Fly fishing only means no weight and idicators. The other part that people are getting caught with is external eyes tied onto hooks which by the regs is not allowed, so definitely check your regs. Good luck

So I just noticed that BHurt Owns the first package and there will be no more bids on it, so as I said, I'm more than happy to add another package exactly the same as the first. 24 flies, box, 1/2 day..... If the money's right, we can make it a full day. I know it's tough for students, etc., to get together a bunch of cash, so I'm also willing to take a couple people that are willing to pool their money together....If that's okay with the people in charge.
-
Okay, you talked me into it. If there is enough interest and money thrown in, I'll add a second package in for bid.... for the cause. These are some of the waters I learned this fantastic lifestyle called "Fly Fishing", so anything I can do to help out, I'm more than happy to do so. Thanks Brad for stepping up.

Greg, you forgot Andy's Offer. I'm trying to figure out my schedule to see what I can offer and I'll get back to you.

I think the kids would love this as their new pet.....My wife might not be too happy tho.

I have to also throw in "Participation", which is huge when it comes to having a great site. I've been to other forums for fishing and other themes where you can wait for days for new topics and/or posts. It's tough to bother staying around on those ones. This site has great participation compared to other boards which is great. I can always count on some fresh reads when stopping by.
-
Good luck buddy. Get your ticket and give me a call. Then you can come up North and make some real money.

Copy and paste your posts from this thread and save them for ten years. Open it on February 6th, 2018 and read it at your desk, or place of employment where ever, or what ever that might be...I'm pretty sure you'll thank me for the chuckle. Actually...Wait and read it while doing your taxes in the Spring.

What are trying to say Rick? Are you trying to start something again? How many other boards have members inviting basically strangers into their homes? Wish I could have been there Rick, but this stupid work thing makes it tough to have a life in the winter. BTW....I think Rick hit it right on the head. The people make the board what it is, and the Admin/moderators do a great job of controlling things privately as to not cause potentially bad situations from arising. I've seen on other boards where the Admin does it in the middle of a good thread and things end up spiralling out of control for all to see. This causes level headed people to go elsewhere, usually leaving only the people that make a board a not so friendly place to be.

I completely agree. Even though I've been too busy to do anything fun the last few months, I can still live thru the posts of the people here. The warm weather can't come soon enough for me. Seems like a good time to repost my little tribute to the people here. I just watched it for the first time in awhile and it made me smile, so for those that have seen it, I hope it does the same. For those that haven't seen it, you're probably newer here, so post your pics this year so I can put you in next year's. Click here if the movie does not play.

All I can say is...Cherish this time, because the fun really starts once you enter the "Real" world. You'll wish you could go back to the days you are complaining about now soon enough

Congrats....If all goes well, you can catch him this summer and win again Next year.

Happy Birthday Pal....Gonna need a pretty BIG cake!

The "Favorite Player" poll got me to wondering what everyone's "All Time Dream Team" would look like. Comment and criticize all you want, but remember these are just opinions. 1. Players from any league in history, (Russian Players, etc. before they played in the NHL). 2. Players named by position they played and cannot be put in a different position. (ie-Bobby Orr Playing the wing with Gretzky not allowed). 3. 6 forwards, 4 Defencemen, 2 goalies.....and 1 enforcer. 4. 1 Head coach, 1 Assistant/Associate Coach and a General Manager. 5. Might be a good idea to mention which Rule book the team will play under. (ie-Dave Schultz might not be a good pick under todays rules for your enforcer, but would be great under 1972's....) My Dream Team - Today's Rules 1st Line: Right Wing - Pavel Bure @ 27 years old Center - Wayne Gretzky @ 20 Years old Left Wing - Alexander Ovechkin @ 25 Years old Left Defense - Lidstrom @ 32 Years old Right Defense - Bobby Orr 2nd Line: Right Wing - Gordie Howe @ 25 Center - Sidney Crosby @ 25 Left Wing - Luc Robitaille @ 27 Left Defense - Doug Harvey @ 27 Right Defense - Scott Neidermeyer Last year. Enforcer: George Laraque Starting Goalie: Martin Brodeur - Last year Back up Goalie: Terry Sawchuk Head Coach: Roger Neilson Associate Coach: Scotty Bowman General Mngr: Glen Sather I went with speed and history to build my team. Some were chosen for personal fondness for the player and others were chosen simply for their statistics or out of respect for their accomplishments. Have fun picking mine apart and choosing your team. If only we could see these players play together....

Cabin Fever Poll
OneMoreLastCast replied to Tako's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Not necessarily bashing him, just pointing out a major flaw that Lowe seemed to over look, that the other 29 GMs didn't. His stats for 2006/2007 were: 81 Games Played 26 Goals 38 Assists 64 Points 135 Penalty mins Most important.....Minus 28 Plus minus doesn't count when on Special teams, and being that 48 of his total points last year were on the power play, this leaves only 16 of his points being scored at even strength. Now, consider that he is considered to be an offensive defenseman, 16 points is pretty low. Now look at the fact that he was on the ice for at least 28 more goals against his team than he was on for when his team scored....I would say he is not only weak offensively, but also very weak defensively when playing 5 on 5. Throw in how prone he is to injury and I'd say he is more of a nagative than a positive to a team. I will agree that he is great for their PP, but do you really want to pay a player $6.25 million/yr to boost your Power play? He would be a great deal as it turns out if they could pro-rate his salary for the number of games he plays, but unfortunately they have to pay him the full amount to play half the games. The money would have been better spent on 2 young prospects to help the team in the future since the team is obviously in a rebuilding stage. I have to throw in two more players to my all time favorites for raw excitement, (It will also show my age....) Butch Goring and Gilbert Perrault -

Cabin Fever Poll

This should be good for a few to disagree with...My choice isn't on the list. Having been a small player all my life, I was always and remain a big fan of Theo Fleury. Forgetting about the problems he went thru at the end of his career, he was the epitome of heart and determination. Not only did he overcome all odds to make it in the league, he became one of the best players of his time. Putting aside your feelings of him if you weren't a Flames fan, you had to respect him regardless as a player. I had the opportunity to meet him thru his ex-wife Veronica and found it amazing to see how much he loved the game. It's a shame that he might be remembered for the way his playing days ended, but hopefully not. Hopefully they do him the justice of celebrating his career here in Calgary and retire the Number 14 soon. -
Fly Fishing Department Now At Wal-mart?
OneMoreLastCast replied to chidders's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
No hard feelings at all. Like I said, pricing and cheap merchandise is way down the list of reasons I don't shop at Wal-Mart, so even after side tracking the thread, I actually got side tracked on my message. This isn't the place for it anyways I guess. I will only say one thing that sort of explains my stand. Bill Gates alone donates close to 40% of his income to Charity, where the Walton family as a whole donates less than 1%. Oops, there I go again. You're on for the next Chinook I am available. I will do my best to make it down for a fish. The good news for now is that I am writing this from Fort McMurray and not some distant place overseas....It's good to be closer to home. -
Black Monday....

Unfortunately I was busy and caught up in other things yesterday and didn't find out what was happening until late in the day. I won't know the total damage until I get time to work it all out, but it doesn't look good. I hope noone suffers too much from it.
