  1. HINT: always wait until after dark to spray the nest as they will all have returned for the night. If you spray during daylight hours you have a whole bunch of pi**ed off wasps coming back and no where for them to go. Been there done that.
  2. whoa! hey thanks for the info. and setting me straight on this one! It got my hackles up at first but I wasn't aware they added a camp area at Rolling Hills - it's been awile since I camped at the Rainier Draws...probably around the time of the pike fishing closure regulation changes. Even then there were a lot of people getting stuck that ventured too close to the water or went in when it was obviously too muddy to do so. I wasn't one of them but I did enjoy being able to camp beside the water. The last time I was there fishing "ice out" at one of the draws there had to be 30 R.V.'s lined up along the shoreline..I knew then that it wouldn't be long before that area was shut down...guess it is time to take a drive out that way and see the area again myself..all is good.
  3. I don't think your friend has the "authority" to "punt" anyone off of Newell. Who is your friend?
  4. I don't think things have changed too much over the years and I have never heard of no trespassing on Newell...unless that is somewhere I am not familiar with. I have drove my motorhome right down beside the Lake many, many times and have never had anyone ever question it. That would really p me off if they started that bs at Newell. Try the south end of the lake around the Rainier draws..that's where you'll find some monster pike this time of the year or Greenwald at the North End or even try Rolling Hills resevoir at the South end ...it's all good and have fun!!!
  5. After the "100 year flood" of '95 Crayfish were a LOT more noticable in the SS at Medicine Hat..that is why I was inquiring about a fly pattern of them last year. I haven't tried the ones i tied yet..I am hoping that I can catch some Walleye and/or pike on them.
  6. I was thinking of creating a line of jewelry made of fish hooks for the folks who like to stick metal things in different parts of their anatomy..or has this already been done?
  7. Having recently been to Banff for several days I couldn't help but notice the absence of any kind of fishing related store in the townsite. There was one store that had an abundance of outdoor clothing and a small amount of equipment on the upper level. I believe they had about 4 pair of wading boots and 6 to 7 flyrods on display. The only flies I saw were on a small display on the wall in a obscure and inaccessible location. I just wonder if I missed something or are there no fly shops in Banff?
  8. unfortunately...yes, there are Walleye in Spruce although I have personally not seen or caught one myself. I heard of someone hooking up to a fairly large one through the ice a few weeks back but it was lost at the ice surface....the fellow also caught some Brooktrout so it is nice to see they are making it through the winter despite the drawdown of the water for the dam rehabilitation.
  9. I think we should rename this thread HUEY, DEWEY and LEWY and Harper can be Uncle Scrooge!
  10. I have learned not to take my film to Cardston to be developed and I also learned that when your nephew wants to take you fishing and he only lives 2 minutes from the best flyfishing water in the world then you should take the time to go dammit!
  11. They sound like very nice fish sticks but they sure are pricey!
  12. Tako..do you seriously use a 5wt for pinks and chum? How much backing do you have on your reel? I am looking at purchasing a rod prior to a trip to Vancouver Island next month but was thinking that I need a 8-9wt rod. If a 5wt is sufficient I may use the 7wt that I already have for stillwater fishing prairie pothole lakes.
  13. Imagine my surprise when I read that there are bears in the wilderness! From now on the only place I am going to fish is in downtown Calgary ..right next to the zoo... where I know that the only bears around are locked up!LOL.
  14. Find some Backwater..that is where they like to hang out. Next month try a grasshopper imitation... they love to eat grasshoppers and later Boatmen work well under any floating fly.
  15. I don't know about rivers but the lakes around Kamloops/Merrit area as mentioned are a flyfishing stillwater paradise.
  16. Use my jacket, hat and wader pocket to carry "stuff". I don't use a net..used to lose them all the time and they were a pain to carry.
  17. Just to set the name straight Playdoh it's Police Outpost Provincial Park. The lake is called Police Lake or Outpost Lake, or Police Outpost Lake ..it depends on who you talk to The southern part of the lake..including the island is in a Provincial Park and the northern part is on private land. There it is clear as mud.
  18. I believe the surface area is approx. 550 hectares.
  19. I would try physio first and then some massage therapy. Physio first as you need to strenghen muscles and ligaments that hold the spine together. I just went through six months of this stuff due to slipping and landing on my as* while flyfishing last fall at Bullshead wasn't too funny at the time though. Physio really helped and i have been using a message therapist to keep things moving. Message therapy is also great if you have a sciatic nerve problem on the side complicated by discombobulation of the spine..from the neck down .
  20. Went through the Allison twice in the early eighties and I think some of the Brood stock were Brook Trout. Also was involved in some electrofishing for study purposes near the confluence of Allison Creek and the "Crow". At that time there were Brookies all the way up Allison and for about a few hundred metres or so downstream from the mouth of the river.
  21. I keep looking at this to see if there are any pic's posted as that was the original post request. Has anyone taken any pictures of random camping and/or the damages occurring in these areas to show the forum or just some pictures of their outing this weekend?
  22. And there lies the problem, what beauty belies the beholder in a bog to some..is a mud hole to others. I know the last time I was out west of "Pincher" in the Westcastle area I could not believe the OHV trails around the place. It was a little bit of a shock to say the least.
  23. Reesor Lake and Spruce Coulee campgrounds are both designated "primitive" campsites. It doesn't mean they are not good places to stay but they are basic; water comes from a standpipe(s),pit outhouses for bathroom facilities, no electricity,no shower facilities and campkitchen's without stoves. The campgrounds have fire pits but wood is not provided-I recommend you get some wood to take with you camping as the amount you get at Elkwater is pitifully small for the amount you have to pay.( You cannot purchase wood at Spruce or Reesor). If you want to be close to facilities you are better off in the Main campground in Elkwater.
  24. This is true... New Zealand were first bringing in the then new tax called the G.S.T. and it was not too many years later that Canada jumped on the boat..so to speak.
  25. There are reg's the same as these on some British Columbian waters containing steelhead..they have been in effect at least 15 years already. What I mean is that if you catch a hatchery fish and keep it you have to stop fishing for the rest of the day on that body of water..I thought it was a bit strange as the river contained other species as well.
