  1. I apologize..I get a bit worked up on some issues and had too much coffee.
  2. I'd love to go ice fishing on BH but I am not going to..what I may do is go out there on my own and watch what others are doing. I am hoping that the gate is still locked and every sorry assed fisherman has to drag all there equipment 1/2 mile to the lake and I hope once they get there..they find there is 4 feet of 1/2 inch thick ice all away around the lake and they can't get on! Speaking of lack of fish handling skills....boy is that the truth. I wish I had been able to contact a CO last year on several occasions. One time I was out there with my daughter and Grandson at the boat launch. 2 guys come along and put there 12 'aluminum in the water and have a conversation with their buddy in a green fish cat float tube. The 2 guys don't even get out of the bay and they catch a fish. They yell back and ask the guy in the tube if he has a tape measure..nope,they start coming back toward the launch site and ask us ..I don't carry one. The middle aged tall guy with glasses hops out of the boat and heads toward the parking lot...the fish is still lying in the boat..it's about 10 minutes later and four eyes returns with a stick with some marks on it. They were putting in the new gate on that day and this idiot walked all the way over there..got the workers to mark off the legal size measurement and then he came back to the launch! Meanwhile numbn*ts is out in the boat with another fish on waiting for his partner to return. Anyway..I was quite pissed at these 2 but bit my tongue..my grandson is too young to hear what I was thinking! The 2 dipsh*ts then measured their fish while moving away from the bay and I could tell by their actions that they were getting rid of the fish over the other side of the boat..one of the fish looked like it was belly up...it was a damned disgrace! On another snowy cold day I watched 2 guys fishing from shore and on 3 occasions one of the "fishermen" dragged a fish a good twenty feet on the groung back to where his partner was fishing to measure the fish! What the hell is that! Then threw the fish triumphantly into the water loudly declaring how great the fishing was but too bad none were keepers!! I watched them catch at least 10 fish and then they packed up and left. I heard them telling someone that they never caught any legal ones but I saw them put one fish inside a large tackle box. It just pi**es me off that this goes on out there. Now Police Lake is going with special regs...good luck trying to enforce that down there...that is bait chucker country!! As for ice fishing not being detrimental on the BH fishery I call a BIG BULL*HIT Buddy on that one and no I don't have to justify it ..anyone with a clue would know it is not good for this very special fishery!!
  3. I am wondering if ice fishing is allowed(ie. legal) on Bullshead despite the fact that it is "supposed" to be open April 1? Can anyone clarify that? I would think that allowing icefisherman on there would be detrimental to the fish population and is against the whole idea of the fishery. Is it possible that the gate can be kept closed until there is open water? Just a thought.
  4. I like the shop too but last time in Edmonton it appeared they had gotten a bit pricier so I went to Whole Sale Sports..the selection wasn't as good for some items but the fellow behind the counter was great and they had what I needed at the time.
  5. LOL...reminds me of a time someone I know was driven to a buddys "secret" fishing hole in the middle of night. After it got light enough to see ..it became apparent that the lake was a slough and we had spent 2 hours fishing at the wrong "lake".
  6. Tis' not a proud desire of mine, I ask for nothing superfine, No heavyweight,no salmon great, To break the record-or my line.. Only a idle little stream, Whose amber waters softly gleam, Where I may wade, through woodland shade, And cast the fly,and loaf and dream. Only a trout or two,to dart From foaming pools and try my art. No more I'm wishing old-fashioned fishing, And just a day on Natures' heart. Henry Van Dyke circa unknown.
  7. aahhhh..there is humour in tragedy I agree mvdaog..laughter is the best medicine.
  8. Bullshead could be about 2 weeks before there is a good chunk of open water ..the dugouts are still frozen over as are the golf course ponds in "The Hat". Last year it was full blown open on April 1..that isn't going to happen this year unless we get lucky and get some double digit temps and a lot of wind.Strange but true
  9. The Flame have a good team this year and a whole lot of guys that can put the puck in the net on a regular basis: their goaltending isn't too shabby either. I predict they will go a long way in these playoffs..they have the veterans and the talent to get the job done.
  10. Troutlover..that isn't you out there on ice by chance is it?
  11. I heard this too ..I hope you are not referring to the lake full of pike about 1 mile south of Police Lake because you'd be in the United States. It is very possible that birds had caused any introduction of other fish to Police. There are Cormorants, Pelicans, Loons, Ospreys, Eagles, Bitterns, Herons and Grebes that all fish in Police Lake chances are they may go back and forth between the two waters.
  12. * NOTE* See "on line disclosure of fishing holes" in this forum
  13. Genetics and the environment the fish is living in.
  14. I use plano boxes too but they sure aren't as neat as that! A great setup ..I hope my wife doesn't see that or shes going to kick me out of the living room
  15. I guess we want to know more precisely how fast the fish grow in Bullshead? The fish in there at the present time put on about 1 1/2 lbs a year..this is growth rate that has been going on for years and is approx. the same as Police Outpost has been for the last 25 years. If triploids are going to grow twice as fast ..boy! are we in for some fantastic fishing. Last season I couldn't catch a small fish in Bullshead if my life depended on it. I don't know where the stocked ones went but I did catch 1 that was about 13 or 14 inches long..but it was 4 or 5 inches shorter than the majority of the fish I caught last year..perhaps it was a runt In any case I will record and send in any data I collect.
  16. Thanks for the input..I am going to try and tie up some of the clouser types.
  17. Thanks for the direction to that site..it looks great.
  18. Anyone have a Crayfish pattern they would share with the Forum? Has any one ever tried a Crayfish pattern successfully. Any information would be appreciated.
  19. Anyone out there have a tried and true crayfish pattern they would share..or any direction would be great. Thanks.
  20. Why are you going to Belize?( I mean besides the warm weather ). Is there not good bone fishing off the Florida coasts? Is our dollar worth more in Belize? Just wunderin why a person would want to go there...umm mayhaps the fishin' is better on the udder side?
  21. actually...the sewage was going into the lake for over ten years..so in that respect your post is correct.
  22. I hope you aren't eating any of the fish you catch in Dragon - there is a reason they are big.
  23. Stop in at North Coast Anglers Ltd. (tackle store in Terrace) and talk to owners Randy and Leona - they were in Kitimat many years before opening their store in Terrace and both are avid steelhead fishers. I have never fished the Kitimat in March but April/May can be great- bring raingear.
