Global Warming Theorists Computers Hacked
reevesr1 replied to a topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
I don't agree. I think he completely believes what he is saying. Whether or not you agree with his politics, it's hard to see where he is doing this for his own benefit. And while I've never claimed any sort of expertise on this subject, and don't know why I wasted my time on this subject again, the preponderance of the evidence is certainly on his side. Doesn't make him correct, but doesn't make him wrong either. By the way, he's donated 100% of the profits of the book to spreading his message. I don't see the personal gain. If anyone tells me how much he's making on the speaking circuit (and I have no idea if he does or not), I would counter with he would have made that anyway. He was VP, and won a presidential election, almost. -

Never understood the rancor against Gore. Unless someone bought into the right wing bs that he ever said "I invented the internet". Total BS on the part of the Republican party. Here is a quote from the man who is considered the "father of the internet" defending Gore: Vint Cerf response on MSNBC So Gore grew up rich, like Bush. Grew up in a political family, like Bush. Went to Vietnam, very much unlike Bush who to some reports spent his military career drunk a lot and in Alabama. Won the popular vote in a presidential election against Bush. So where exactly is the lack of credibility? He seems committed to what he is doing. Don't give me the weak crap about how big his house is (rich and always has been, remember). He spends much of his time working for something that, to all appearances, he completely believes in. He has never seemed the type to me that did things for personal gain. He didn't need to. Whether or not you agree with his position should not mean you should doubt his commitment or credibility. -

A Story Of Fishing, Fathers, Wives, And Ffc
reevesr1 replied to reevesr1's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
Mar, I remember several years ago when my dad was talking to my aunt about how much they missed their father. This was probably 25 or more yrs after my grandfather had died. Never goes away it seems, which is really good when you think about it. -
Touche.

The problem with self righteous #@$@heads like that is they think they are doing you a favor by teaching you some "etiquette". What garbage. Even if your son's rod had a hook, I've seen guys fish the bow with a 3 wt. What's the diff? John, I agree with ADC. He will forget. The odds of something like this happening again are pretty slim. If you want, I bet I could get a couple of friends to run interference for ya!

I'm starting another Raffle for my Prostate Cancer Fundraiser based on the stunning success of the Rod Raffle! This one is for my Condo in Panorama. Available for up to 3 nights anytime in the spring (after ski season) up until June 15 or anytime after August Long Weekend in the fall This will give you access to many fine fishing lakes in the area, including Whitetail, Whiteswan and Premier all within a 1 hr or so drive to go with all the cuttie/rainbow water, including some very fine classified water, which all fish really well in the fall. Additionally, Greywolf Golf Course will be open later in the spring and certainly in the fall. I can give the winner any help he needs with fishing the flowing water. The still water would be up to you, but I do know there are rainbow up to 10 lb in some of those lakes! And I would also be open to allowing the winner to use the condo in the winter instead for skiing during the week assuming it is not rented out. Contact me if you wish to discuss. So here is how this is going to work. Raffle "tickets" are $10.00 each. The tickets are purchased by donating to my Movember site at: Rick's Donation Site and clicking on the "donate to me" link. If you don't feel comfortable donating on line, PM me and we can set something else up. PLEASE put your FFC name somewhere when you donate! I will track entrants via the donation website. If you donate $10, one ticket, $20 is two, and so on. At the end of the month (December 1), I will put everyone into a hat and have my 12 yr old daughter do the draw (because it will make her happy). Good luck!

Very much appreciated Heimdallr. Thank you. And to Simpson and Haggis57 (out of curiosity, are there 56 other Haggis's somewhere?) -
That's fantastic Monger! Live it to the fullest!

I don't know what the rules are, but I personally would leave it alone and let nature take it's course. He might make it, but probably not. Hate to be cliche, but circle of life comes to mind.

Ferrari's are very hard to land when hooked in the ass! You could see that moving his rod back and forth was having no effect.

A Story Of Fishing, Fathers, Wives, And Ffc
reevesr1 replied to reevesr1's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
Crow, I think He's already blessed me, and I know where my father is. My wife thinks me finding FFC was divine intervention. I am totally serious when I say that. And to you other guys, stop it. You're making me blush! -
My participation in the Movember Prostate Cancer charity along with the frankly amazing participation by members of this board have had me thinking about my dad, the friends I've made on this board and something my wife said not very long after he died. I'll see if I can keep this story somewhat brief. I've probably told some of this before, but it seemed relevant to me now. A few days before my dad died, my mom started calling his friends and telling them that it would be a pretty good idea for them to stop by and say goodbye. I'll never forget watching guys who had been larger than life to me all my life (one was an ex-football player, one was the funniest man I've ever met, and my uncles are the best guys in the world) nervously pace on the deck outside my parents front door waiting for their turn to sit with dad for a few minutes so he could hold court for the last time. They all got their turn, all I'm sure remembered some favorite story for the last time, and all came out looking as you would expect. Quite a moving day for me. Sometime that day (or at least I think it was that day), my wife and I went out for a bit for some food away from everyone. I told her that the scariest thing for me in all of this was that I was loosing the guy I told all my stories to (a son never gets tired of bragging a bit to his father, or at least I never did). And who was going to call me when I was fishing? When I lived in Texas, every single fishing trip I went on, at some point I would get the following call: "Hey Rick, this is Richard, your father" (he ALWAYS did that on the phone. Like I wouldn't recognize the voice, or didn't know my father's name was Richard. I always found that hysterical) "Hey dad" "Doing any good" "Pretty good, 5 or 6 so far" "Any size to 'em?" "A couple of pretty nice fish" "Where are ya?" "Inside of Pelican Reef" "You may want to think of hitting sand island. I saw a bunch of slicks pop up there the other morning. If you need bait, I should be picking up in a half hour or so. I'm down by the turning basin." "Ok dad, see you in an hour or so" A couple of days after he died (and I think this was before the funeral, but it all seems to run together) my two brothers and I went fishing for a couple of hours. I don't think any of us really wanted to, but felt we had to. My parents place is right on the water and the boat is right there. It takes about 1/2 hour from the house to some really good water, water all of us had fished hundreds of times, so we were on our way there when my phone rang: "Hi Rick, it's Jackie" "Hi honey" "Doing any good?" "We're not there yet Jackie" "OK, I'll call you in a little while." "Thanks honey." Nicest thing she's ever done for me. After I got back home, I started to use this website more than I had in the past. I told old stories and wrote paragraphs on every fishing trip I went on. Jackie, being far more observant of behavior than I'll ever be told me she thought that this little 'ole website gave me an avenue to say all the things I used to say to my father. I was used to telling him the story of the trip during and after every trip, and FFC gave me a venue to do that. And I think she's probably right. I like to think I'm telling the stories to give information about what is working for me, and maybe to entertain a bit, and I certainly think there is a large component of that. But really, I suppose I do it because I kinda have to. Since I can't brag to my father any more, you folks get the dubious pleasure of letting me ramble on. And I thank you all.

Tim Horton's Litter
reevesr1 replied to Suntoucher's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
I drink McDonald's coffee pretty much every morning, sometimes with a muffin. I use the drive through while listening to ESPN on Sirius. Usually I throw my cup from the day before away in the trash can at the front of the drive through, sometimes a couple of days worth. I always say hello and sometimes have a brief conversation with the always nice, usually Asian ladies who work there. The coffee is always good, usually very hot, and always exactly how I ordered it. At no point do I feel I am doing anything to ruin the environment or feel that I am frequenting a blight on our national, or international, landscape. -
I have a rental vacation home in Panorama if anyone wants to rent it. I won't rip you off, promise, but I don't allow pets. I also have a fly rod, have been to Vegas though not recently, and drive a big truck. I have a dog, but don't really like cats. If I had a residential rental property, I would charge the going rate, maybe less if I trusted the tenants, and probably be nice to them. Just like most landlords I had before I bought a house.

Nicely phrased.
-
I went all over the Facebook page and just couldn't find where they explain that. But I would think that if the designs are free, then it's up to the Fly Shops in Calgary (most of which frequent this site) to decide if they want to participate. I'd get a shirt and a sticker, at least.

I used to play a LOT of golf, before my handicap became my 5 wt. Still play some, but mostly work related. Ski quite a bit in the winter.
