  1. The spring run-off is long gone. The snow pillow has been depleted. Looks more like August levels. As some streams start opening up, now's not the time to target fish that have been trapped in side channels and in low flowing tributaries. Water temps may already too warm. Best to stick to the Bow and keep them fish wet. Chances are that we will get a heavy downpour at some point and may just be enough to give those post spawners a fighting chance of return to the Bow.
  2. You know it's bad...when...https://canmore.ca/residents/about-canmore/canmore-latest-news/1258-mandatory-non-essential-water-use-ban-for-canmore-harvie-heights-and-deadman-s-flats#:~:text=Effective June 9%2C 2023 at,stop non-essential water use.
  3. These are the water temps I got today between 1 & 2pm at three locations in Fish Creek Prov Park. Outside temp 26C. Sunny. Bow river: 200' upstream of the Fish Creek boat launch.Taken in two feet of fast moving water. 16.9C Bow river: downstream of Bankside. Taken in slower moving water. 19.3C Fish Creek: Between Bow Bottom Trail SE bridge and where it drains into the Bow. Taken in a 10'' deep fast riffle. 21.1C
  4. After I received my refund, I entered my CAF ID and then I had to go to the purchase page on the website and place the CAF Veterans Resident Sportfishing License into the cart and checkout. Even though the dollar amount is zero they still need the completed transaction in order to have the license show up in the APP. Yes you do need to have your veterans ID with you when you fish but you probably should carry ID with you anyway in case your phone or you fall in the water.
  5. As a veteran, I was pleased to find out about the free Alberta CAF Veteran Resident Sportfishing License. I thought because we now have a digital WIN card and a digital License it would be easy to get a refund for my Resident Sportfishing License purchased through their auto renewal program. Unfortunately there are a few hoops you have to jump through first in order to get your free AB Veterans Sportfishing License. If like me, you were on the auto renewal system and you’re a Veteran, after contacting the Alberta Fish & Wildlife district office, the following is what you have to do: Print out your digital Resident Sportfishing License Take the license to your local AB Fish and Wildlife office and fill out the form for voiding a license (The Admin office will then send the form and printed license to AB Licensing who will process your refund)) Once the void and refund is complete you can then go online to purchase your AB CAF Veteran Resident Sportfishing License.
  6. Alberta resident Canadian Armed Forces Veterans are now eligible for a free sportfishing licence.
  7. Princess Auto is selling off the remainder of their Tear Aid repair kits. On clearance: $5.73 ea. I carry both Type A & Type B in my safety kit. Even at the regular price, they are well worth the money. These patches will get you back on the water in no time. I've had to use them on two separate occasions.
  8. Perhaps one day, someone will post a side by side comparison video on the maneuverability of the Nile Creek, Watermaster Kodiak, Scadden Assault and the Outcast Clearwater on the Bow. IBFS are now saying that they ''might'' be getting some Outcast Cleawater in July.
  9. I spent months researching frameless inflatable boat. I lost interest in the NileCreek, Scadden and Watermaster the moment bcubed brought up the new 2021 Outcast Clearwater. Outcast's new oarlock tower system is like no other I've seen. I do like that Clearwater has rockers. To those thinking of ordering themselves a set of oarlocks & towers for a DIY project, I'd say...Outcast is on to us. They know they've got something good here. Can't blame them. Here's the prompt & courteous response I got when I asked if I could order a pair of of oarlocks & metal towers. I figure, there's no harm in asking. ''We don’t actually sell those. We do have pieces/parts in our repair center that are reserved for warranty repair/replacement issues if you have warranty issues.''
