monger
I use rounded wine corks with a toothpick. Then I just tie a half hitch around the toothpick. Wine corks can hold up lots of weight.
Smitty
Are the local shops in Calgary carrying thingamabobbers? What about Edmonton? Fishin Hole, or Wholesale Sports? Smitty

hydropsyche
i just use a toothpik but i dont find that it works that well. is there a cheap but effective way of doing it. Yes. Get some Dave's Fleximent and dip your tooth picks into it. I dry them on my fly tying light spring but you can come up with your own method. Clip off to length needed. It stops the thinest line from slipping and slows down the eventual waterlog/mushy state it will eventually achieve. Works great! I'm still not a thingamaboobie convert, but I'm trying.
