dryfly Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Finally uploaded a bunch of pictures of "whiffling geese" ... nothing to do with fishing, but interesting stuff for you outdoorsy types. Like Yogi said, "You can see a lot by looking." Read the text at the bottom first. Whiffling geese slide show Click once on the first image and use left and right arrow keys to move ahead or back. birchy Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 A wise fella I know of would say.. "Those pictures are cosmic!" Thanks for sharing. Quote
dube Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 That's neat. I've seen ravens do something similar but it seemed to me they tuck the leading wing in more so it looks more like a barrel roll, can't recall if they got quite as upside down as these geese. Couldn't say whether it was windy or not either. I just assumed they were joyriding as senseless as that seems. I wonder if the concept is the same. Quote
Taco Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Well thats about the whiffllest thang I ever sawed. Still trying to speak Spanish to total strangers???? Cool pics BTW Quote
Keith Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 That's the neatest thing I've seen all day. Something to keep an eye out for. Thanks Clive. Quote
Hawgstoppah Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 didn't you post some of these last year too? I'm sure you did. Very cool stuff... I love watching birds fly. Cant find any youtube vids of whiffling. Quote
dryfly Posted April 19, 2009 Author Posted April 19, 2009 Yeah it is a tad weird. But it is very cool what the camera shows. Brian I posted a couple last year and a couple of guys cried "BS" and "Photoshop"... all true stuff. I decided to upload a bunch of whiffling geese pix into a slide show and figured to show them here. It is fun stuff. Quote

monger Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Nice shots Clive. We see this action quite often when we go out collecting fly tying materials around sloughs in the fall. The birds do it to lose altitude quickly as they are coming to the water. Yesterday we were collecting feathers for making hopper wings Quote
dryfly Posted April 19, 2009 Author Posted April 19, 2009 Funny one Weedy...will deal with you later. Cool turkeys! Lots of nice hopper wingers there. Porkies or S of Hwy #3... i.e. the "Burmis flock"? Quote
monger Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 No further west. Alberta's season starts May 1. Quote
