Whiffling Geese Nfr

Finally uploaded a bunch of pictures of "whiffling geese" ... nothing to do with fishing, but interesting stuff for you outdoorsy types.

 

Like Yogi said, "You can see a lot by looking." ;)

That's neat. I've seen ravens do something similar but it seemed to me they tuck the leading wing in more so it looks more like a barrel roll, can't recall if they got quite as upside down as these geese. Couldn't say whether it was windy or not either. I just assumed they were joyriding as senseless as that seems.

 

I wonder if the concept is the same.

Yeah it is a tad weird. But it is very cool what the camera shows.

 

Brian I posted a couple last year and a couple of guys cried "BS" and "Photoshop"... all true stuff.

 

I decided to upload a bunch of whiffling geese pix into a slide show and figured to show them here. It is fun stuff.

Nice shots Clive. We see this action quite often when we go out collecting fly tying materials around sloughs in the fall. The birds do it to lose altitude quickly as they are coming to the water.

Yesterday we were collecting feathers for making hopper wings
