Rigging dry flies with a dropper..

 

Wouldn't the weight of the dropper pull the dry under?

Yes and no. If the dry is small and you drop a weighted fly, you know the answer. Most are using a dropper rig being a smaller unweighted, other than bead perhaps, nymph ( 14-20) under an attractor dry or something in the larger size. Common bow river hopper dropper rig for me is a # 6 hopper, yellow stimmy etc., attached to 24" of 4x to a bh nymph size 14-16. Good way to fish banks and runs. The nymph usually wins.

Depends what dry and what dropper. A large dry like a hopper will float even with a BH nymph however a small elk hair caddis won't. If the dropper isn't weighted then it will. It's just about figuring out what works with what. My best combos so far are a hopper with a hare's ear or pheasant tail and an elk hair caddis with an unweighted prince nymph.

If you're using a nice foam bodied or foam winged hopper/stimmie, you should be able to hold up even a good sized BH nymph.
