DougC Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 I'm just in the process of putting together my first Spey setup and have seen some "Spey swivels" online that attach between the head and running line to help prevent twist. Does anyone actually use these? and are they actually necessary? I've got an Airflo Skagit Compact head and Airflo Super Dri running line if that makes a difference. Thanks for any insight. Quote
Dangus Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 I’ve never had any twist to the point where I’d be annoyed enough to wonder if there was a fix for it or if I was just doing something wrong.... Quote
BurningChrome Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 Twist is more of a problem with mono running lines. Simple fix in the video. 1 Quote
DougC Posted August 23, 2018 Author Posted August 23, 2018 Thanks guys. I wasn't too crazy about running a swivel through my guides so I'll give it a pass if it's not necessary. Quote
Fly007 Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 A swivel is not needed , your line will be fine. Enjoy the two handed casting. Safe travels . Quote
lstcast Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 I tried the Rio swivels and I would not recommend them. They do stop the twisting, but I had one break and I almost lost my shooting head and tip. Quote
BowLurker Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 I tried a super-tiny swivel for a while, and didn't mind the extra weight while casting an Intermediate. Line twist was helped a bit, but the difficulty was the dreaded 'hinge' effect in the loop. In the wind, the swivel was worse than a split-shot for nailing the rod and also the fisherman...My left ear can attest to this! BAM! -M. Quote
