Highwaystreets Posted June 28, 2016 Share Posted June 28, 2016 Hey all! Just wanted to stop by and say hi. I've decided to get into fly fishing with my girlfriend and a buddy of mine. Been thinking about it for a long time and finally decided to get into it. Split living between Calgary and Montana so thought it was time...... Just browsing gear and deciding what to get and it sure is overwhelming! Seems like I'll be spending some cash but have been browsing kijiji and the trading post here. threepwood Posted June 28, 2016 Share Posted June 28, 2016 Welcome! Be sure to search the forums for older posts on gear and strategies for beginners - there's a wealth of info available. The two pieces of advice you're likely to hear first: take a casting lesson if you have the time and spare money, and don't buy a rod without casting it (and preferably a bunch of alternatives). You don't have to break the bank to catch fish, especially as a beginner - decent starter sets (rod/reel combos) can be had for under $200 - well under that amount, in some cases.
