jimforrest Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Has anyone heard anything regarding the possibilities/plans for the opening of the Powderface Trail road? Quote
DougC Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 It's supposed to open in May according to a hiking forum I'm on. I'll believe it when I see it though... Quote
BurningChrome Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 The road has been closed since the floods. Rumour has it that it's supposed to reopen this spring but I haven't seen any definitive dates. Quote
jasonvilly Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 The road is fine and driveable, but still closed. A buddy mountain biked it. A fellow I saw at the entrance on the kananaskis side said it was the logging company keeping it closed. Truth? No idea. Quote
BurningChrome Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 A fellow I saw at the entrance on the kananaskis side said it was the logging company keeping it closed. Truth? No idea. Wouldn't surprise me at all. They asked Husky to close their lease road down in McLean Creek too. Now people are creating new trails just to get to the designated trails because that road was one of the main access points. Quote
jimforrest Posted April 8, 2016 Author Posted April 8, 2016 An update on my original post. I emailed Kananaskis information about the plans for the Powderface Trail and just got a response today, indicating that as of right now the plan is to open the road on May 15. Good news. Just hope it actually happens. Quote
bowbonehead Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 Happy and sad I kind of liked the added solitude when it was closed but I will enjoy the shorter walks/peddles Quote
BurningChrome Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Heard from someone who was there yesterday and sounds like it's completely open. Quote
BurningChrome Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Someone on Reddit posted they drove it.Was his name Geopete? Quote
DougC Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 I drove it yesterday. It's completely open but there are some deep muddy spots on the southern half. Northern section is in much better shape. Quote
