you got me all excited for a second.

for terrestrials, are we looking for realistic or just something that could be considered an ant/caterpiller/spider kind of pattern?

generally used patterns or realistic...it's all up to your creative genius...

This is only a half order. I am on a diet :) It is only half order because it is on a size 14 and most patterns I saw call for 6 or 8.

Half Order Club Sandwich

Hook: Size 14

Thread: Orange

Legs: Round Orange

Body: Foam

Indicator: More Foam

Mono for the legs? Would the fish be able to see it? I guess as long as the body isn't clear as well haha

This complex tie is not to be confused with the over-promoted, and much over-used, San Juan Worm aka BAW. The SJW or BAW imitates an aquatic worm organism. However, this is a TRUE terrestrial food form for trout. The DEW, or the Drowning Earth Worm, or just dew worm.

Yes, the DEW worm, as it is affectionately known to millions of anglers worldwide, is now catching on with fly anglers all over. However, this complex pattern is not for novice tyers and should only be attempted after years and years of tying practice. I'd list the materials and tying procedures here, but it is far too long. So if you are interested I can mail the 20-page tying instructions to you.

This serious (but complex) terrestrial pattern should be tried by all.

What do I win Andrew?

Dug this up from an old forum post

Alright so I completely forgot to post the recipe.

Hook #10 Eagle Claw 94845

Tread Yellow 6/0 Uni

Body Yellow orange and tan foam sheet from walmart shaped with scissors finished with sand paper.

Wing Deer Hair

Head Spun Deer Hair

Legs Yellow rubber Legs colored with a black sharpie

Really a very simple tie. Might want to try the orange foam as the bottom layer to fool some fish into thinking its a stone.
