Dank Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Hey guys, I'm taking a trip down to Cabo the week before Christmas for some deep sea yellowtail fishing. Never been down there before and I'm considering taking a fly rod, have any of you ever fly fished down there? If so, what can I expect? Quote
LynnF Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 I have not. But can I say that I'm very jealous of your trip? Quote
Glenbow Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Not Cabo, but fished for Mackerel in Puerto Vallarta & it was fun. I dunno if the flyrod will be useful there, maybe Google some stuff about that area. Have fun though! Quote
reevesr1 Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Dan, I can't imagine there will not be inshore fly opportunities in Cabo. Just looked at a surf cam and the beachfront looks easily fishable. Get some big clousers and deceivers and have at 'er. Talk to some of the flyshops (maybe even those guys downtown), I'm sure they have some info. I'm completely jealous. http://www.allaboutcabo.com/cabocam.htm Quote
ladystrange Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 take the CHEAP rod, just in case. the um, charters - are not so nice to luggage, tube or no tube they would find a way to fold it in half. have a great time Quote
kritofr Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 You can have flyfishing opportunities for Dorado, Sailfish, and Rooster fish down there. You can find some Rooster fish tailing from the shore, fishtales has a intense 15 minute DVD of some guys fishing for the Rooster fish. The remainder can be caught from the boat. Quote
Mephitis Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Check this site: http://www.bajabigfish.com/ I have fished with them once and I got skunked. I think I'm the only person in history who is 3 skunks in three outings with a guide. In any event, Pam does have info on fly-fishing. FWIW Pat Quote
Dank Posted November 4, 2007 Author Posted November 4, 2007 Cool, thanks for all the replies! Rick, don't be jealous, this is my first real vacation in a few years and I'm only going for 2 1/2 days! Rooster Fish look pretty interesting, just might have to pack that fly rod with me.... Pics to follow next month, hopefully with a few fish, otherwise it will be me passed out with a bottle of tequila! Quote
reevesr1 Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 Man, I hope you get a Roosterfish on a fly rod. That would really, really rock! They are supposed to be brutes. Quote
