  1. Is it just me or is fish snot notably absent this year after the floods and deluges? :-? Pat
  2. I am toying with the idea of a pontoon boat, but I know diddley about them. Can anyone point me to a site with general info on what to look for? TIA Pat
  3. Hi, gang. I just checked the AB Environment snow data and after a slow, low start, the snow pillow in the mountains is up to or above long-term average in most stations. Things are looking good!!!! cheers pat
  4. Ooooooooops! Sorry, when I eneterd the post, I saw the name Tungsten and assumed it was he who posted. Now when I look closer, it was some dude named Quinn. Hope I didn't offend either. sheesh! pat
  5. In my opinion, Tungsten, he way wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy out of line. I'm not sure how to deal with people like that as from your comments he was not a total jerk. It's sad that at a time when due to the increased crowding, we need more etiquette, we appear to be getting less. sigh pat
  6. Many thanks guys. I'm trying to use Flickr so with luck, a fishing hazard on Smuts is located here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/30425828@N04/ crossed fingers pat
  7. I've looked thru the site trying to see how to add a photo to some of my posts. No luck. Anyone want to tell me where to go? (Be nice now!) :-) Pat
  8. $500.00??!! Good heavens! At that price one has a lot of choice. Both my outfits together cost less than that... and the limitting factor with each lies not in the outfit but in me. sigh... pat
  9. Pat responds: "Duh. Figure 8 loop?" wallowing in ignorance pat
  10. Thanks for the reply, BigBad. It looks like the Uni-knot would work, but in the one pictures in the magazine, the tag end points toward the fly, not away from it like the Uni-knot shown in your site. That said, the Uni-knot looks like it would give a bit more action to thew fly. Once again, many thanks! Pat
  11. Hi, gang. In the current issue of "Fly Rod and Reel" the cover photo has a cutthroat trout with a beadhead nymph in its mouth. The fly is attached to the line by some kind of looped knot, and I'm wondering what it is. I always just use the improved clinch, so I'm also wondering what the advantage of a loop knot might be. Any answers? :-? Pat
  12. Hey, Mayfly. Those "tool lanyards are called "witch doctors" - at least in my fishing circle. FWLIW pat
  13. I must ask one question: Does the "stiletto effect" actually exist or is it the invention of someone to increase sales of a new product. personally, I've never noticed it. Grumpy and cynical pat
  14. Check this site: http://www.bajabigfish.com/ I have fished with them once and I got skunked. I think I'm the only person in history who is 3 skunks in three outings with a guide. In any event, Pam does have info on fly-fishing. FWIW Pat
  15. Naa, I want to go fishing but I've been informed that if I want to continue living, I'll attend the party in honour of our 40th wedding anniversary. Damn woman has a twisted sense of values! ;-) pat
  16. I'm not sure why everyone is congratulating Birch: the last work he did in this regard was a bit over 8 months ago. The rest of the work was done by the missus. Give her my best, and I think you'll find fatherhood gives you a whole new perspective on life. (congrats) pat
  17. Hey, gang. Does anyone know the URL for any Ff newsgroups for Central or Northern AB? BTW, met "Jeremy" and his wife in JNP a few days ago and exchanged a few stories. Really nice people! cheers pat
  18. Thanks a lot guys. I do appreciate the feedback. WRT why I want a DT, it's because I'm cheap and when one end wears, I can reverse the line. Most of my fishing is on smaller waters, so I don't need to reach way out like I could with a WF line. cheers pat
  19. I'll try this again on the new board here: I'm in need of a new DT-5-F line, but there are a whole mess of them out there. Anyone have any recommendations for a moderately-priced line? TIA Pat
