Many leaders come with loop to loop connections for attachment to the fly line. They are stronger than a nail not and easier to attach. The can lead to more tangles if your loops are too stiff. Some fly lines are being made with this loop attached, but you can also buy a loop attachment. Good luck!

why do you hate the nail knot?

 

if i can do it perched on the side of cliff haning over a gorge, rod under one arm, spool of leader line in my teeth, death grip on the rock face with an elbow and a toe and using a piece of grass as 'nail'

 

anyone can do it with a little practice

 

i only ask so i can give you an alternative

Here's a tip that I learned from Vic at the Crowsnest Angler. Forget the fancy knot tying tools or even the traditional nail. Go to Crappy Tire and get one of those inflating needles used for inflating basket balls etc.

File off the business end and you have the perfect sized tube for tying a nail knot. Makes tying nail knots a piece of cake. Terry
