monger Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 What hooks are you using for #18-22 BWO? Has any one ever used little curved hooks like a Daiichi 1120? Quote
Flytyer Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 I've used TMC 2457 in #16 and smaller as well as Daiichi 1110 in #18 to 24 Quote
monger Posted February 18, 2013 Author Posted February 18, 2013 I was thinking something like this would work. Maybe an 1130 rather than 1120 would float better. Tiemco 2487 (vs 2457) 2 Quote

monger Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 Not mine, but a cool fly. Some interesting reading here as well: http://www.tomsutcliffe.co.za/component/k2/itemlist/user/63-tomsutcliffe.html?start=200 Quote
DonAndersen Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Monger, For years I have used Partridge Capt. Hamilton L3A for the tiny stuff. Regards, Don Quote

monger Posted February 20, 2013 Author Posted February 20, 2013 What hook would you recommend snuffy? Quote

snuffy Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 mind explaining how come? They bend out ridiculously easily. Even on 5x, you have to baby the hook, not the tippet. It's a real bummer when you realize that all your pretty flies are pretty much useless. Quote
monger Posted February 20, 2013 Author Posted February 20, 2013 Are #18 2457s too heavy for a dry fly? Quote
Flytyer Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Are #18 2457s too heavy for a dry fly? Not at all and tied as parachutes they never seem to sink regardless of how many fish take them. Quote
monger Posted February 20, 2013 Author Posted February 20, 2013 OK, I better get to work on some tiny bugs. Thanks for the replies Quote
Flytyer Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 If you want a parachute pattern give me a shout via PM Quote
Harps Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Tiemco 2487's are my go to hook for most of my patterns from size 12 to 22, although I prefer the 2487BL if I find them. I only use down to 5x on the really small hooks because of the eye size- there is rarely a need to go under 3-4x, and I have broken a few but never bent them out on fish. They are the best hook for Wyatt's Deer Hair emerger and the Agent 99 caddis which are 2 of my favourites. Quote
