DAndres
Hey All, I was out fishing the bow near where the railroad tracks cross the bow in Bowness. As usual, the action was slow there. To my surprise, I did hook and land a small (~15 inch) lake trout! Has anybody hooked into lakers in the swifter currents of the bow (i.e., not in a reservoir), and if so, how common is it? Just curious. The water temps seemed FAR too warm to be holding lake trout..
SilverDoctor
I've hooked Lakers a few times in the Bow in various locations.
FraserN
I have caught several brook trout and one bull trout in the bowness stretch, and they are also a cold water char. I am still waiting for my first laker here. It does not surprise me that you caught it where you did. That is a deep pool which would provide ideal cold water habitat for those fish. monger
They get washed down from Ghost Reservoir
CDone
used to catch them in the stretch upstream of Banff all the time when we were kids as well as below the falls. They are certainly in the system, just 'few and far between'. Colin
DAndres
Thanks everybody. Too bad it wasn't a 30lbs hog.... haha The spot he was caught in was actually only a few feet deep. I wet waded through it comfortably, so the water temps were certainly not what they might be in the bottom of a deep pool. Regardless, it was a neat catch!
