darrinhurst Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Ok, so I basically keep my fishing gear in my car all summer long so that I can always be ready to fish when the moment strikes me (and my wife says yes), and I have noticed this year more than others, that its getting quite hot in there. Will this affect the quality or strength of my stuff? Lines, rods, etc? Thanks guys. Quote
ÜberFly Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Darrin, Be warned! Keeping stuff in your car can be risky (other then the high temps effecting your line, I would think)!! If your car ever gets broken into, it will all be lost.. I've heard the stories!! Not fun! P Quote
darrinhurst Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 Not great for rods, line or tippet. How so? Would it make the rods more brittle? how about the lines? :s Quote
SilverDoctor Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 How so? Would it make the rods more brittle? how about the lines? :s Glues in some rods on the cork handle will let go & migrate with extreme heat, I've seen decals pop off, guides loosen. In one case that I saw with a fly line on a reel that was left on a back window fusing of the line to itself. Visible cracks may not occur immediately on the line, but the damage will have been done and cracking will occur. As far as making rods brittle not sure, about that but can't be good over time. Quote

Well, I guess on the bright side, they aren't sitting in direct sunlight as they are all in the trunk. It's just the heat that I am concerned about. Thanks for the heads up Doc. Quote
darrinhurst Posted July 19, 2012 Author Posted July 19, 2012 Place your gear in a large Yeti cooler Great Idea! Any one got a spare $1300 kickin around?? Quote
