Guest 420FLYFISHIN Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 I was out on some ricks doing a bit of casting (no fish bighting) and out of teh corner of my eye i noticed a mid sized long rodent skampering around. Larger than a farit with brown fur and a small white patch unter his/her chin. mink or weasel all the weasels i see online have a full belly colore this was just a small tuft of white. Thanks Jeremy Quote
Current Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 If it was that big and weasel-like it was probably a mink. There's a good pic here that shows the chin patch: http://www.ducks.ca/resource/general/naturenotes/mink.html Nice spot! Cheers Quote
Guest 420FLYFISHIN Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 That looks like the guy i saw, but when i sat on him for a ride he just gave a squeak and a squish...... Quote
Taco Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Did you know that mink gets a mink the same way a good lookin' woman gets a mink? Quote
Pipestoneflyguy Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 House cat Fisher's and Pine Marten's also have similar colouring and shape as you described Quote
Sean84 Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Maybe a mormot http://wild-facts.com/wp-content/uploads/2...armot_1_web.jpg Quote
Guest 420FLYFISHIN Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 haha, i know it wasnt a marmot. It was not otter large but had a head size larger than a house cat by a bit with the perky triangle ears. My money is on Mink at this point but it was cool to see down here in the city parks. Quote
Guest tallieho Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 i would say it was a mink..where i take my dog[laycock d/park].apparently about 30,35 yrs ago therre were 2 mink farms, these are escapees.i have seen them fishing eating /catching suckers out of the outfalls[nose creek].one farm was right where the dodge dealership is now,the other one was north of the garden center.. Guest Grinr Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Sounds like it was probly a fisher?Mink are only ferret size or smaller with a head the size of a squirrel, same with marten, and weasels are even smaller.Fishers have house cat size heads, bigger than mink, but smaller than otter with a bushy,mink-like tail. Sean84 Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 This must have been it. I just never realized the chupacabra has migrated this far north. Quote
agbff Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 martin, see quite a few every season... at least i think that is what they are. Quote
Hawgstoppah Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Your report of this sighting is now under investigation. Quote
dube Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 I would vote pine marten too, pretty curious creatures. Mink are generally a solid deep red color in my experience. Weasel are tiny little things and probably still lots of white on them yet. Quote
Guest 420FLYFISHIN Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 it was a deep brown but much larger than a ferrit Quote
Xplorer Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Hey Guys, I saw this in the NW a couple of years ago, it also had a white spot under its chin(the photo doesn't show it). I never did figure out what it was. It moved pretty good through the rocks. Quote
Guest Grinr Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 it was a deep brown but much larger than a ferrit Fisher... Quote
Current Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 There's no way it was a fisher on the banks of the Bow. Nor a marten for that matter unless you were fishing the upper Bow. Quote
kungfool Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 Fisher martin I'll bet. A very rare animal to stumble across but they are around. Have been fortunate enough to see 2 of them. Quote
